Augsburg splits on day three in Florida

FORT MYERS, Fla.-- The Augsburg College softball team improved to 6-4 overall and 4-2 during its spring break trip to Fort Myers, Fla. for the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic with a loss to UMass-Dartmouth and a win over the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford.

LOCATION: Collier Park, Fort Myers, Fla.
RECORDS: Augsburg 5-4 overall, UMass-Dartmouth 5-1 overall, Pitt-Bradford 3-7 overall

HIGHLIGHTS VS. UMASS-DARTMOUTH
• Augsburg was held to two hits on 21 at bats with one walk and five strikeouts.
• Amanda Niznik (JR, Columbia Heights, Minn.) and Haley Larson (SO, Shakopee, Minn.Prior Lake HS) both went 1-for-2.  
• Courtney Larsen (SO, Little Canada, Minn./Concordia Academy HS) fell to 1-2 on the year, pitching six innigs without surrendering a walk, striking out two, and allowed just three runs on six hits. 
• A well played defensive game with neither team commiting an error on 39 total putouts. 

HIGHLIGHTS VS. PITT-BRADFORD
• The Auggies exploded for 14 hits and nine runs against Pitt-Bradford to improve to 6-4 overall. 
• Larsen earned the win in this game by throwing three innings and giving up just one run on two hits. 
• Samantha Anderson (FY, Coon Rapids, Minn.) relieved Larsen to earn the save, throwing four innings and giving up just one run on one hit and striking out four. 
• Anderson's 34 strikeouts so far this season are third-best among MIAC players in overall statistics.
• Augsburg had four athletes record multi-hit games against Pitt-Bradford, and two of them finished with three hits. 
• Anderson helped her own cause, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one RBI, a double and a home run. 
• Jenna Orth (SR, Melrose, Minn.) also went 3-for-4 and added a stolen base.
• The Auggies had seven different athletes record an RBI, as Brianna Cline (SO, St. Clair, Minn.) finished 2-for-4 with one RBI, one run, one walk and two stolen bases. 
• Anna Podewils (FY, Burnsville, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) also finished 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. 
• The other Auggies joining in on the hit parade were Carly Dropik (FY, Alexandria, Minn.), Amanda Niznik (JR, Columbia Heights, Minn.), Meghan Springborn (SO, Oakdale, Minn./St Croix Lutheran HS), and Taylor Mattice (SO, Woodbury, Minn./Centennial HS).

• Augsburg is idle on Monday and will return to play on Tuesday (3/15) against SUNY-Brockport at 12 p.m. and the University of Saint Joseph at 4 p.m.
