Auggies hot in Florida

FORT MYERS, Fla.-- The Augsburg College softball team improved to 7-5 overall and 5-3 during its spring break trip to Florida for the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic with a loss to SUNY-Brockport and a win over the University of St. Joseph on Tuesday afternoon.

HIGHLIGHTS VS. SUNY-BROCKPORT
• Augsburg scored four runs on five hits, including a triple and five walks, while striking out six times in its first game on Tuesday. 
• SUNY-Brockport exploded for 12 runs on 11 hits and struck out twice. 
• Carly Dropik (FY, Alexandria, Minn.) led the Auggie offense, going 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs, while Brianna Cline (SO, St. Clair, Minn.) finished 1-for-2 with two RBI, a walk, and a run scored.
• Sarah Buckner (SR, Duluth, Minn./East HS) and Jenna Orth (SR, Melrose, Minn.) both finished 1-for-2, as Buckner added an RBI. 
• Carrisa Struve (SO, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) fell to 1-1 as she threw four innings and allowed six earned runs on nine hits. 


HIGHLIGHTS VS. ST. JOSEPH
• In the Auggies' second game of the day, it was their turn to get hot as they finished with 13 runs on 10 hits and eight walks, with no strikeouts.. 
• St. Joseph was held to two runs on six hits, with only two walks and one strikeout. 
• Dropik again led that Auggies at the dish going 2-for-3 with two RBI, two doubles, two runs, and one walk.
• Cline also went 2-for-3 with one RBI, a triple, two runs and two walks.
• Six other Auggies factored into the hitting, including Orth, Samantha Anderson (FY, Coon Rapids, Minn.), Meghan Springborn (SO, Oakdale, Minn./St Croix Lutheran HS), Taylor Mattice (SO, Woodbury, Minn./Centennial HS), Haley Larson (SO, Shakopee, Minn.Prior Lake HS), and Anna Podewils (FY, Burnsville, Minn./DeLaSalle HS).

• Anderson, Springborn, Podewils, and Amanda Niznik (JR, Columbia Heights, Minn.) all finished with one RBI as well.
• Courtney Larsen (SO, Little Canada, Minn./Concordia Academy HS) improved to 3-2 as she scattered six hits to allow just two runs (one earned) in five innings of work.
