Szczebak sets school record in Auggie victory

WAUKESHA, Wis. -- Nicole Szczebak (JR, Goodyear, Ariz./Desert Edge HS) set a new Augsburg College single-game school record, recording 13 ground balls in her Auggies' 14-2 nonconference win over Carroll University on Sunday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Defender Szczebak shattered the Augsburg single-game record for ground balls with 13. The old record of nine was set by Delaney Everett (SO, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) in a game against Illinois Tech last season. Szczebak also scored a goal and had two caused turnovers.
• Her 13 ground balls, the most by any NCAA Division III player in a game so far this season, is also tied for the 13th-most in a single game in NCAA Division III history. The record is 19, set by Alysia Pinkerton of Centenary (N.J.) in a 2013 game against Cedar Crest (Pa.).
• Claiming a 28-11 advantage in shots in the game, Augsburg scored the first four goals of the contest and built an 11-1 lead en route to the victory.The Auggies had 34 ground balls to Carroll's 26, while forcing 17 of Carroll's 39 turnovers. Augsburg also had 10 draw controls to Carroll's eight.

Aliya Hinz (FY, Loretto, Minn./Delano HS) scored three goals to lead Augsburg, while Sheala Osborne (FY, West St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) scored two goals and added two assists. Osborne also had three caused turnovers, two draw controls and five ground balls.
• Dezera Sieracki (JR, Wyoming, Minn./Centennial HS) scored two goals and added an assist, Everett scored a goal with two assists, and Jesse Heusinkveld (SO, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) scored a goal with an assist. 
• Also scoring goals for the Auggies were Becky Genzler (FY, Farmington, Minn.), Rachel Frantz (JR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS), Marissa Guillou (SO, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) and Christina Nelson (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS).
• Lexi Halvorson (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) and Kassandra Diaz (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) had two draw controls each. Halvorson also had two ground balls.

• Guillou had two saves in goal in the first half, with Sarah Hochman (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) recording two saves in the second half in her collegiate debut.

FOR THE FOES
• Kailey Leahy and Ariannah Ritter scored goals for Carroll.
• Shelby Will had 11 saves in goal.
