Comeback falls short in key league game

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College nearly rallied back from a 6-1 first-half deficit, but the Auggie women's lacrosse comeback fell short in an 11-7 loss to the Illinois Institute of Technology in a Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference contest on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Illinois Tech scored six of the first seven goals to lead 6-1 with 12:21 left in the first half. The Auggies cut the lead to 8-3 at halftime, then scored four of the next five goals to cut the Scarlet Hawks' lead to 9-7 with 12:18 left. But Illinois Tech scored the final two goals of the game in the last two minutes to clinch the win.
• Delaney Everett (SO, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) led the way for Augsburg, scoring three goals with five ground balls and five caused turnovers.
• Dezera Sieracki (JR, Wyoming, Minn./Centennial HS), Izzy Snow (FY, Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) and Rachel Frantz (JR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) scored a goal and assist each, with Christina Nelson (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) adding the other Auggie goal.
• Frantz contributed five caused turnovers and four ground balls, while Sieracki had a ground ball and a draw control. Nelson had three caused turnovers and two ground balls, and Snow contributed three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
• Lexi Halvorson (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) had two ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers. Sheala Osborne (FY, West St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had two draw controls, a caused turnover and a ground ball.
• Goalie Marissa Guillou (SO, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had 10 saves, while also recording four graound balls and three caused turnovers.
• Illinois Tech outshot Augsburg by a 25-18 margin in the game, while also recording 13 draw controls to Augsburg's seven. Both teams had 20 successful clearing attempts.

FOR THE FOES
• Sarah Colby scored five goals -- all in the 6-1 game-opening run -- to lead the Scarlet Hawks, while Alyssa DeLuca scored three goals. Isabel Fitzpatrick scored two goals with an assist.
• Madison Meredith scored a goal, while adding six draw controls, four caused turnovers and four graound balls. Isabella Rubin had five draw controls.
• Jennifer Young had five ground balls and five caused turnovers, and Cassandra Reineke had four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
• Abbie Reynolds had 10 saves in goal for Illinois Tech.
