MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College softball team lost the first game, but claimed a 9-0 win in the second game to open Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play 1-1 against Macalester College on Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS• Augsburg recorded more hits in game one, -- eight to five -- but Macalester was able to convert its five hits into seven runs to secure the 7-5 victory.
• Macalester opened up the scoring in the first inning and extended its lead with four more runs in the third and two in the fifth, while the Auggies plated two in the third, one in the sixth and two in the seventh.
• Ashley Anfinson (SR, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) led the Auggies, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Carly Dropik (FY, Alexandria, Minn.) also recorded a multi-hit game as she went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs.
• Jenna Orth (SR, Melrose, Minn.) finished 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Brianna Cline (SO, St. Clair, Minn.) went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. • Carrisa Struve (SO, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) got the start in the circle for the Auggies and was handed the loss, dropping her record to 1-2 on the year. Struve threw 2.0 innings and allowed just one run.
• Alyssa Kaiswatum (SR, Regina, Saskatchewan/Thom Collegiate HS) threw just 0.1 innings and allowed four runs before Samantha Anderson (FY, Coon Rapids, Minn.) relieved her and finished the final 4.2 innings. Anderson recorded eight strikeouts, while allowing two runs on three hits and one walk. GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS• Augsburg used a four-run first inning to build a big early lead on its way to a 9-0, six-inning win due to the NCAA eight-run rule.
• The Scots could never get anything going as
Courtney Larsen (SO, Little Canada, Minn./Concordia Academy HS) kept them off balance for the entire game. Larsen did not strike out a single batter, but the Scots couldn't rally to plate any runs.
• Larsen threw a two-hit, six-inning gem, sending 18 of the 21 batters faced to the bench. Augsburg didn't commit any errors, and the Scots only reached base on two singles and a walk. • Meghan Springborn (SO, Oakdale, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) had a big day at the plate, finishing game two 2-for-3 with three RBI, a walk and two runs scored.
• Sarah Buckner (SR, Duluth, Minn./East HS) also tallied three RBI as she went 1-for-3.
• Orth and Cline both went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk in game two. Cline added an RBI as well.
• Taylor Mattice (SO, Woodbury, Minn./Centennial HS) belted a two RBI double and went 1-for-4, while Dropik went 1-for-1 with three walks, two stolen bases and three runs. UP NEXT• Augsburg continues MIAC play on Wednesday (4/6) at 3:30 p.m., hosting St. Thomas at Edor Nelson Field.
