Auggies score big 17-7 league win over Benedictine

MINNEAPOLIS -- Leading for all but the first 1:34 of the game and dominating in virtually every category, the Augsburg College women's lacrosse team scored a key 17-7 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference win over Benedictine College (Ill.) on Saturday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg scored nine of the first 10 goals of the game and eventually led 12-2 at halftime. The Auggies never surrendered their double-digit lead in the second half, leading by as many as 13 goals early in the second stanza.
• For the second time this season, Helena Nguyen (SO, Maple Grove, Minn.) tied her single-game school record with a six-goal effort, and added an assist to tie the single-game school record for points with seven. She also had a six-goal, one-assist night in Augsburg's 19-5 win over Northwestern-St. Paul on March 22. Delaney Everett (SO, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) also had seven points in a game, in a 2015 game against Loras (Iowa).
• Shelby Brion (JR, Clearwater, Minn./Monticello HS) scored three goals, while Everett and Sheala Osborne (FY, West St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) scored two goals with an assist each.
• Ashley Pettipiece (SO, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) scored two goals, while Becky Genzler (FY, Farmington, Minn.) had a goal and an assist, and Jesse Heusinkveld (SO, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) scored a goal.
• Lexi Halvorson (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) and Dezera Sieracki (JR, Wyoming, Minn./Centennial HS) added assists for the Auggies.
• Halvorson had three draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls, while Heusinkveld had three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Rachel Frantz (JR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) collected four draw controls, two caused turnovers and a ground ball. Osborne had three gound balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover.
• Augsburg outshot Benedictine by a 30-19 margin, including a 23-7 advantage in the first half. Augsburg had 21 ground balls to Benedictine's 11, and had 14 draw controls to Benedictine's 12.
• Augsburg converted 16-of-21 clearing attempts, compared to 12-of-24 for Benedictine.

• Goalie Marissa Guillou (SO, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had eight saves for the Auggies.

FOR THE FOES
• Becca Gullett scored three goals and added an assist to lead Benedictine. She also had three draw controls, three caused turnovers and a ground ball.
• Madison Horan scored two goals, while Samantha Link and Jasmine Moreno also scored goals.

• Hannah Smith had six saves in goal in the first 25 minutes, with Rebecca Berg recording two saves in 35 minutes for the Eagles.
