Auggies drop 16-7 decision to Carthage

MINNEAPOLIS -- Outshot by a 31-17 margin in the game, the Augsburg College women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-7 decision to Carthage College in a nonconference contest on Sunday morning at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Carthage scored eight of the first nine goals in the game and led 8-2 at halftime. The Lady Reds outshot the Auggies by a 16-7 margin in the first half, en route to their 31-17 advantage.
• Izzy Snow (FY, Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) scored two goals to lead the Auggies, including a free-position goal with one second left in the first half.

• Helena Nguyen (SO, Maple Grove, Minn.) scored a goal and added two assists.
• Lexi Halvorson (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS), Becky Genzler (FY, Farmington, Minn.), Shelby Brion (JR, Clearwater, Minn./Monticello HS) and Dezera Sieracki (JR, Wyoming, Minn./Centennial HS) scored goals for the Auggies, and Rachel Frantz (JR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) added an assist.
• Snow had five draw controls, four caused turnovers and four ground balls, while Frantz had four draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
• Christina Nelson (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) had two draw controls and two caused turnovers.
• Sheala Osborne (FY, West St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS), Rosalyn Zirngible (SR, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire North HS) and Nicole Szczebak (JR, Goodyear, Ariz./Desert Edge HS) had three ground balls and two caused turnovers each.

• Goalie Marissa Guillou (SO, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had eight saves for the Auggies.
• Carthage converted 20-of-27 clearing attempts, while Augsburg converted 13-of-31 clears. Augsburg had 14 draw controls to Carthage's 10, while Carthage had 27 ground balls to Augsburg's 27. Augsburg had 31 turnovers in the game, compared to 25 for Carthage.


FOR THE FOES
• Rachel Mussell scored five goals to lead Carthage, while Kara Vana had three goals and two assists.
• Mackenzie Day, Maddie Griffin, Shannon Long and Kendell Santin had a goal and assist each.
