MINNEAPOLIS -- Putting together a strong performance to open Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, the Augsburg College men's soccer team claimed a 5-0 win over visiting Saint Mary's University on Wednesday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

RECORDS: Augsburg 2-3-0 overall (1-0-0 MIAC), Saint Mary's 3-3-0 overall (0-1-0 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Both teams had 11 shots in the game, but Augsburg took advantage of its opportunities by putting 10 of its 11 shots on-goal, while Saint Mary's put just four shots on-frame. The Auggies also converted two penalty kicks in the game -- one by Lionel Vang (FY, Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) in the 34th minute and the other by Bobby Kohl (JR, Shorewood, Wis.) in the 70th minute.
• Augsburg opened the scoring in the 15th minute, when Luke Falk (SO, Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS) finished off a long feed and pass by Barinedum Kordah (SR, Brook.yn Park, Minn./Park Center HS).
• Ben Henry (SR, Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln HS) scored his first goal of the season at the 36:00 mark, heading home a throw-in from Kohl.

• Henry and Vang had three shots, while Kohl and Falk had two shots.
• Tommy Molski (JR, Woodbury, Minn./North St. Paul HS) had three saves in goal for the Auggies.

QUOTES FROM AUGSBURG HEAD COACH GREG HOLKER
• "Saint Mary's sat off a little when our backs had the ball deep in our half, and we were really patient. At the right moment when their pressure came higher up the field, we passed through it quickly and attacked the right flank. That led to a really efficient first goal that Luke buried from Barinedum."
• "Our best goal was the last one, however. Nate started everything in front of our bench, and 14 passes later, he slammed a ball across the face of the goal from the other side of the field and Peyton crushed his first career goal. I have a feeling he's going to have many more. He was tremendous to watch and we are glad to have him back after missing the past few games through injury."
• "It was good for Ben and Bobby to get on the scoreboard. We had a little fitness scare with Bob prior to the game, and when he was cleared, he came rushing out to join us. His first touch of the ball was the assist to Ben, and then he left no doubt on the penalty."
• "Overall it was a good start to the MIAC campaign, but our guys know we have to be better on Saturday at Carleton."

UP NEXT
• Augsburg travels to face Carleton on Saturday (9/17) at 3:30 p.m.
