Auggies cruise past St. Olaf in MIAC opener

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College volleyball team began its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season with a 3-0 victory over St. Olaf College on Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.

RECORDS: Augsburg 5-5 overall (1-0 MIAC), St. Olaf 7-4 overall (0-1 MIAC)  

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After posting convincing wins in the first two sets, the Auggies rallied from behind in the third set to claim the important MIAC victory. 
• The Auggie offense was led by Jaelyn Arndt (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS), who tied a season-best with 13 kills, while posting a .385 hitting percentage to go along with two digs and a block.
• Courtney Lemke (SR, Brownton, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS) posted a team-best 20 assists, while adding five digs and four service aces.
• The duo of DeeDee Maier (SR, Middleton, Wis./Middleton HS) and Taylor Linn (JR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) both finished with double-digit digs, posting 14 and 12 respectively to lead all players in the match.
• For the match, Augsburg posted 40 kills, while holding the Oles to just 28. The Auggie defense posted six team blocks, four by Katie Noble (FY, Cannon Falls, Minn.) compared to just four for St. Olaf.

FOR THE FOES
• Megan Grimes and Lauren Rewers finished with nine kills apiece to lead St. Olaf.
• Renata Erickson posted a match-high 23 assists, while adding six digs.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg and St. Olaf both travel to Waverly, Iowa to take part in the Wartburg College Tournament this upcoming weekend. The Auggies will play Wartburg on Friday at 7 p.m. and Buena Vista University and Luther College on Saturday at 12 and 2 p.m. respectively.
