Auggies finish 2-2 at Northwestern Tournament

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg College volleyball team opened its season with a 2-2 performance at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul Labor Day Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Augsburg posted vicotries over the College of St. Scholastica and Loras College while falling to Coe College and the University of Wisconsin Stout. Augsburg's Macey Terhell (SO, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) was named to the All-Tournament team for her outstanding performance.

 Augsburg College def. Loras College 3-2 (23-25, 25-15, 25-19, 22-25, 15-9)

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST LORAS
• Augsburg posted a five-set victory over Loras College to start day-two of the Northwestern Tournament. After dropping the first set, Augsburg claimed wins in sets two, three and five.
• Morgan Malley (SO, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) posted a team-high 14 kills, while adding 22 assists and 10 digs for the assist-kill-dig triple double.
• Taylor Linn (SO, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) also finished in double figures for the Auggies, recording 12 kills, while adding eight digs and a team-best five blocks.
• Hannah Gibbemeyer (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) led the Auggies with 23 assists, while adding 11 digs.
• Four Auggies posted double-digit digs, led by Macey Terhell (SO, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS), who posted a match-high 37 digs.

FOR THE FOES (LORAS)
• Loras was led by Danni Kennedy, who posted a team-best 12 digs, while adding 12 digs and three blocks.
• The Duhawks finished with five players with double-digit digs, led by Tara Blake, who finished with 18 digs, while adding five kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST UW-STOUT
• Augsburg struggled to find its offensive rhythm and dropped a three set match to rival UW-Stout.
• The Auggie offense was led by Taylor Linn (SO, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Jaelyn Arndt (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS), who posted six kills apiece.
• Morgan Malley (SO, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) recorded a team-best 14 assists and eight digs, while adding five kills.

FOR THE FOES (UW-STOUT)
• Stout was led by Ashley Pratt, who poasted a match-best 11 kills, while adding two blocks.
• The Blue Devils outhit the Auggies .283 to .076 for the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ST. SCHOLASTICA
• After dropping the first set, the Augsburg College volleyball team rallied to win the next three sets and capture the important season-opening victory over the College of St. Scholastica, who was ranked third in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll.
• Jaelyn Arndt (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) and Ellen Sachs (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) teammed up to lead the Auggie offense, posting 13 and 11 kills respectively. Sachs added 11 digs, for her second career kill-dig double-double.
• Taylor Linn (SO, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) had a strong match for the Auggies, posting 18 digs, six kills, five blocks and a match-high five service aces. As a team, Augsburg finished with nine service aces, while the Saints holding St. Scholastica to just two.
• The Auggies outhit St. Scholastica, recording a .173 to .104 hitting advantage. 
• Morgan Malley (SO, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) posted a team-high 30 assists and 19 digs, while adding five kills.

FOR THE FOES (ST. SCHOLASTICA)
• The Saints were led by Noelle Elvehjem, who recorded 10 kills and Alex Barsody, who posted a match-high 34 digs.
• Emily Kessler and Emily Jansen split the setting duties for St. Scholastica, finishing with 17 and 15 assists respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST COE
• After dropping the first set, the Augsburg again rallied to win the second set. Augsburg then dropped a pair of heartbreaking 25-23 set losses.
• DeeDee Maier (SR, Middleton, Wis./Middleton HS) and Jaelyn Arndt (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) led the Auggie offense, posting 12 and 11 kills respectively. Maier added 16 digs, an ace and a block.
• Defensive specialist Macey Terhell (SO, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) led all players with 30 digs, while adding four assists and an ace.
• Morgan Malley (SO, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) posted a match-high 41 assists and 16 digs for her second assist-dig double-double of the day.
• The Auggies recorded 50 kills in the match, while only allowing 42 for the foes.

FOR THE FOES (COE)
• Coe was led by Lindsey Koch and Aryn Meisinger, who posted nine kills apiece, while each adding 20-plus digs.
• Hanna Reese recorded a team-high 33 assists in the match. 

Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (9/7) when the Auggies host UW-Stout at 7 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
