Bednar, Steinhaus post double-doubles, Auggies fall to Oles

MINNEAPOLIS -- Hannah Steinhaus (JR, Waterville, Minn./Waterville-Elysian-Morristown HS) and Bridget Bednar (JR, Pierz, Minn.) both posted their first double-doubles of the season, but the Augsburg College women's basketball team fell to St. Olaf College 60-50 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Hannah Steinhaus (JR, Waterville, Minn./Waterville-Elysian-Morristown HS) led the Augsburg offense with 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting, while pulling down 10 rebounds. The double-double is the third of her Auggie career.
• Teammate Bridget Bednar (JR, Pierz, Minn.) recorded a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double, the second of her Augsburg career. Bednar shot 4-of-6 from the field and added a pair of assists and a steal.
• Unfortunately, Augsburg was plagued by a tough shooting outing as the Auggies shot a season-low 25.7 percent on the afternoon.
• On the boards, Camryn Speese (FY, Bloomington, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) continued to be a strong force, pulling down nine rebounds, while adding two blocked shots. 
• The Auggies pulled down a season-high 52 rebounds, claiming a 52-46 advantage in on the boards.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 25.7 percent (18-of-70) from the field, while St. Olaf connected on 31.3 percent (20-of-64) of its shot attempts.

FOR THE FOES
• St. Olaf was led by Makenna Ash, who finished with a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double, while hitting 10-of-15 from the field.
• Betsey Daly also finished with a double for the Oles, putting up 10 points, while pulling down a game-high 15 rebounds.

• Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (1/18), when the Auggies host Macalester College at 7 p.m.
• St. Oaf also returns to action on Wednesday (1/18), when the Oles travel across town to take on rival Carleton College.
