Olmscheid leads Auggies past Concordia

MINNEAPOLIS -- Collin Olmscheid (JR, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) used a 27-point, 13-rebound double-double to lead the Augsburg College men's basketball team to an 86-81 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Monday night at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• In a game that featured eight tie scores and 18 lead changes, neither team was able to extend its lead to double digits in what proved to be a battle of two evenly matched squads. Concordia cut the Augsburg lead to 84-81 off an Austin Heins lay-up with 14 seconds remaining, but Harry Sonie (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) hit both free throws on the ensuing possession to seal the important MIAC victory for Augsburg. 
• Olmscheid led all players in both points (27) and rebounds (13), recording his fourth double-double of the season and eighth of his career. Olmscheid shot an impressive 11-of-15 from the floor, while adding a blocked shot.
Kevin McKiernan (SO, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS) provided a nice spark off the bench for the Auggies, scoring 17 points on a 6-of-8 shooting effort, while adding three rebounds and three assists.
• Also scoring in double figures for the Auggies was Richie Perea (SR, Colorado Springs, Colo./Wasson HS), who finished with 13 points, while pulling down three rebounds and adding four assists.
• Sonie dished out a season-best eight assists and added a pair of steals.

• For the game, Augsburg had its second-best shooting performance of the season, connecting on 54.5 percent of its field-goal attempts. Concordia shot 51.6 percent from the floor, but struggled at the free-throw line, only connecting on 9-of-17, while Augsburg was able to capitalize on 18-of-21 from the charity stripe.
• The Auggies claimed a 31-29 advantage on the boards.


FOR THE FOES
• Concordia finished with four players in double figures, led by Austin Heins, who finished with 17 points and four rebounds, while shooting 8-of-9 from the field.
• Kevin Wolfe led the Cobbers on the boards, pulling down seven rebounds, while adding nine points.
• The Cobbers claimed a 42-24 advantage in points in the paint.
