Big second quarter spurs Auggies past Pipers

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg College women's basketball team shot a staggering 80.0 percent in the second quarter and never relinquished the lead as the Auggies topped Hamline University 83-71 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening at Huttton Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggie victory was spurred in large part by an outstanding second quarter. Augsburg shot 80.0 percent (12-of-15) from the floor and 83.3 percent from three-point range (5-of-6) in the frame. The Auggies took a 45-35 lead into the locker room at the intermission and were able to hold off a 10-0 Piper run to start the fourth quarter to seal important conference victory.
• The Augsburg offense had one of its most balance performances of the season with all five starters finishing in double figures. Camryn Speese (FY, Bloomington, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) led the way with a season-high 18 points, finishing 6-of-10 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. She also added five rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
• Recording the lone double-double of the night, Bridget Bednar (JR, Pierz, Minn.) posted a 10-point, 10-rebound effort, marking her second double-double in the past two weeks.
K'Aezha Wubben finished with 13 points for the Auggies, while adding three assists and a pair of steals.
Arianna Jones (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) and Tamira McLemore (FY, Eagan, Minn.) finished with 12 and 10 points respectively, while combining for nine assists and eight boards.
• For the game, Augsburg had its second-best shooting performance of the season, hitting 47.5 percent (29-of-61) from the floor. The Pipers connected on 44.8 percent (26-of-58) of their shot attempts. Augsburg recorded 11 three-pointers on the night, marking the fifth time this season the Auggies have score 10+ three pointers. The Auggies are 5-0 this season in game where they make 10 or more three's.
• Augsburg claimed a commanding 44-25 advantage on the boards and outscored the Pipers 34-18 in points in the paint.

FOR THE FOES
• Chloe Graves had a huge night for the Pipers, scoring a season-high 28 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists and a steal.
• Kaeli Stayer and Alaina Quaranta scored 14 and 10 points respectively for Hamline.

• Augsburg returns to action on Saturday(1/28) at 3 p.m., when the Auggies host St. Catherine University in another important MIAC match-up.
