WINONA, Minn. -- With five different players scoring goals and 13 different players figuring in the scoring, the Augsburg College men's hockey team rallied for a 5-5, overtime tie with Saint Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday evening. Saint Mary's won the overtime shootout to collect a bonus point in the MIAC standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Trailing 5-3 six minutes into the third period, Augsburg scored twice in the final eight minutes of regulation time to force overtime. After a scoreless five minutes of extra time, Saint Mary's won the shootout 2-1 in four rounds to gain the extra conference point. With the draw, Augsburg now has 24 league points, a point behind St. Thomas' 25 in the conference standings.

Nate Flynn (JR, Hastings, Minn.) and
Chris Nuth (SR, Trabuco Canyon, Calif./Mission Viejo HS) scored goals 2:13 apart in the second period to give Augsburg a 2-1 lead. Flynn's goal was assisted by
Corbin Chapman (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) and
Rory Vesel (SR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS), while Nuth's goal was assisted by
Dylan Meier (SR, Highlands Park, Colo./Mountain Vista HS) and
John O'Connor (FY, Moorhead, Minn.).
• The third period featured seven goals, including five in the first 6:09 of play.
Evan Hesse (JR, Monticello, Minn./Palmer (Alaska) HS) tied the game at 3-3 for the Auggies with a power-play goal from Vesel at the 4:08 mark. After the Cardinals scored twice in a 60-second span to take the lead, the Auggies tied the game to force overtime.
Trevor Stewart (SR, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Eastmont HS) scored at the 12:00 mark from
Max Pernhem (JR, Stockholm, Sweden/Dragonskolan) and
Andy Faust (JR, Stillwater, Minn./Hill-Murray HS), and
Eric Brenk (SO, Moorhead, Minn.) tied the game at the 18:09 mark, assisted by
Luke Dietsch (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) and
Jason Krych (FY, Champlin, Minn./Totino-Grace HS).
• Brenk scored for the Auggies in the shootout.
• Augsburg outshot Saint Mary's by a 40-28 margin in the game. The Auggies outshot the Cardinals by a 29-10 margin in the first two periods, but the Cardinals outshot the Auggies by an 18-11 margin in the third period and overtime.

Nick Schmit (SO, Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) had 23 saves in goal for Augsburg.
FOR THE FOES
• Five different Cardinals scored goals, with Kellen Wasell recording a goal and assist. Michael Amelio, Taylor Portner, Bob Kinne and Martin Gruse also scored goals for the Cardinals.
• Nick Albergo and Kinne had goals in the shootout for Saint Mary's.
• Phil Heinle had 35 saves in goal for the Cardinals.
