Auggies rally twice for draw with Pipers

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Rallying from a 3-0, second-period deficit and a 4-3 deficit in the third period, the Augsburg College men's hockey team claimed a 4-4 overtime tie with Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Friday evening. Hamline won the overtime shootout 2-0 to collect a bonus point in the MIAC standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Trailing 3-0 at the 13:21 mark of the second period, Augsburg rattled off three goals -- two by Nate Flynn (JR, Hastings, Minn.) -- to tie the game at the 6:22 mark of the third period. The Pipers took a 4-3 lead on a power-play goal with 4:37 left in regulation, but Lukas Gillett (SO, Rosemount, Minn.) tied the game again with a goal from Evan Hesse (JR, Monticello, Minn./Palmer (Alaska) HS) and Dylan Meyer (SR, Highlands Park, Colo./Mountain Vista HS) with 2:48 left.
• After a scoreless five minutes of overtime, Hamline won the shootout 2-0 in two rounds to gain the extra conference point. With the draw, Augsburg now has 25 league points, tied with St. Thomas for the lead in the MIAC standings, a point ahead of Hamline's 24 and two points ahead of Saint Mary's 23. St. Thomas lost 5-4 in overtime to Concordia-Moorhead on Friday.
• Meier, Luke Dietsch (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) and Corbin Chapman (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) claimed two assists apiece for the Auggies, as eight different players figured in the scoring. Meier has extended his point streak to five straight games, with a goal and five assists in the span.
• Will Peterson (JR, Eagan, Minn.) opened the scoring for Augsburg with a goal at the 16:44 mark of the second period, assisted by Meier and Chris Nuth (SR, Trabuco Canyon, Calif./Mission Viejo HS).
• Flynn tied the game at 3-3 with two goals in a 52-second span early in the third period, both assisted by Chapman and Dietsch. Flynn now has six multi-point games, including two multi-goal games in his last four contests.
• Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 35-33 margin. Jordyn Kaufer (SR, Stillwater, Minn.) had 29 saves in goal for the Auggies. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Flynn's 12 goals are tied for second-most among MIAC players in overall statistics. His team-best 19 points are tied for seventh-most in the MIAC.
• Chapman, who has 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) this season, reached the 75-point career plateau with his two assists. He now has 30 goals and 45 assists in 90 career games.
• Augsburg has outscored its opponents by a 78-49 margin this season, the most goals scored and second-fewest goals allowed (behind St. Thomas' 48) among MIAC teams.

FOR THE FOES
• Russ Jordan, the MIAC's leading scorer with 17 goals and 30 points, scored twice on Friday to lead the Pipers. He also scored the second goal in the shootout to clinch the Pipers' bonus point.
• Jake O'Borsky had a goal and an assist for the Pipers, and Para Monsef scored the other Hamline goal.  
• Justin Quale had 31 saves in goal for Hamline.
