MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University volleyball team out-hit the University of St. Thomas, but couldn't convert on a few key points in the fifth and final set, dropping a 3-2 heartbreaker in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Si Melby Hall on Homecoming Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After allowing the Tommies to come from behind and steal a 26-24 first set victory, Augsburg came out determined and reversed fates, posting a 25-23 win in the second. The Auggies dropped the third set 25-21, before putting together their best effort of the night, hitting .364 to claim a 25-19 fourth-set win. In the decisive fifth set, Augsburg jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but let St. Thomas go on a 6-1 run midway through the set, and the Auggies couldn't quite recover as they fell 15-10.

Morgan Malley (JR, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) posted a career-high 59 assists, while picking up 14 digs and adding four kills.
• Also having a career-night for Augsburg was
Taylor Linn (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS), who finished with a career-best 22 kills, while adding 17 digs and three blocks (one solo). The kill-dig double-double is her ninth of the season and 14th of her career.

Corrina Evans (FY, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) and
Jordan Weeding (SR, Greenfield, Minn./Rockford HS) also posted double-figure kill totals for Augsburg, while both hit better than .250, finishing with 15 and 14 kills respectively.
• Five Auggies recorded 10-plus digs on the evening, led by 19 from
Macey Terhell (JR, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS). Defensive specialists Stephanie Heschel (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS) and
Tayah Barnes (FY, Preston, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) added 14 and 10 digs respectively.
• This marks the only match of the season that Augsburg has hit better than .200 and not been able to claim the victory. For the match, Augsburg hit .225, while St. Thomas hit .217. The Auggies claimed a 67-62 advantage in kills, while both teams posted 81 digs.
FOR THE FOES
• Whitney Loyd and Audrey Erickson paced the Tommies, finishing with 17 and 15 kills respectively.
• Libero Madie Kroehler picked up a match-best 25 digs, while adding two assists and an ace.
• St. Thomas is currently ranked No. 19 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III national poll.
