4-1 win gives Auggies sweep at MIAC Showcase

BLAINE, Minn. -- With nine different players figuring in the scoring, the Augsburg University men's hockey team completed a sweep of its games in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Showcase game with a 4-1 win over Concordia College-Moorhead on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• For the second straight game, Augsburg had to rally from a deficit, as the Auggies scored four straight goals after surrendering the opening goal 6:32 into the second period.
• Augsburg scored twice in a 1:57 span in the second period to take the lead, as Lukas Gillett (JR, Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS) pocketed an unassisted goal at the 9:26 mark, and Luke Dietsch (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) scored from Max Pernhem (SR, Stockholm, Sweden/Dragonskolan) and Nate Flynn (SR, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS).
Matt Nehls (FY, Boulder, Colo./D.C. West HS) scored his first collegiate goal at the 16:25 mark of the second period, assisted by Alex Rodriguez (JR, Miami, Fla./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) and Chandler Madry (JR, Bakersfield, Calif./Fairbanks (Alaska) BEST HS).
• Augsburg capped the scoring at the 1:48 mark of the third period, when Eric Brenk (JR, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) scored from Andrew Faust (SR, Stillwater, Minn./Hill-Murray HS).
Nick Schmit (JR, Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) improved to 2-0-0 on the season with a 23-save effort in goal for Augsburg.
• Augsburg outshot Concordia by a 45-24 margin in the game, including an 18-3 advantage in the third period. All but one of the 18 skaters in the game had at least one shot on-goal in the contest.
• Augsburg is ranked No. 13 in both preseason Division III national polls, from USCHO.com and D3hockey.com

FOR THE FOES
• Zach Doerring scored the opening goal of the game at the 6:32 mark of the second period, a power-play goal from Mario Bianchi and Jon Grebosky.
• Goalie Sam Nelson had 41 saves for Concordia.
