Auggies compete at UW-Eau Claire Invitational

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- The Augsburg University women's volleyball team dropped hard-fought matches to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and the host University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Eau Claire, Wis. Libero Macey Terhell (JR, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

FINAL SCORE: UW-Eau Claire def. Augsburg 3-0 (27-25, 25-17, 25-22)
LOCATION: McPhee Center, Eau Claire, Wis. 
RECORDS: Augsburg 14-7 overall, UW-Eau Claire 11-7 overall 

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Taylor Linn (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) paced the Auggies, finishing with 11 kills on just 22 attempts. She also added eight digs and four blocks to lead Augsburg in the loss to the Blugolds on Saturday afternoon.
• Augsburg outside hitters Jordan Weeding (SR, Greenfield, Minn./Rockford HS) and Ellie Schwartz (SO, Woodbury, Minn./Hill Murray HS) teamed up for 16 kills, with both hitting better than .220 in the match.
• Defensively, Macey Terhell (JR, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) picked up 14 digs to lead the Auggies. She currently leads the MIAC in both overall digs (424) and digs per-set (5.44).
Sydnie Zachary (SO, Apple Valley, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson HS) handled the setting duties, dishing out 33 assists, while adding six digs and a service ace.

FOR THE FOES
• UW-Eau Claire was led by Jessica Coyne and Madelyn Pashibin, who recorded 16 and 11 kills respectively.
• Madison Surprise dished out 39 assists and Talia Jaskulske picked up 14 digs to lead the Blugolds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies struggled to find their offensive rhythm, hitting only .068 in dropping a four-set match to the UW-River Falls on Saturday morning.
Corrina Evans (FY, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) led Augsburg with 11 kills, hitting at a .421 clip, while adding five blocks and a dig.
• Also finishing with double-digit kills for the Auggies was Jordan Weeding (SR, Greenfield, Minn./Rockford HS), who recorded 10 kills and added three service aces.
• On the defensive side of the ball, Macey Terhell (JR, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) picked up 17 digs, while Taylor Linn (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) added 12 and Tayah Barnes (FY, Preston, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) added 11.
• Sydnie Zachary (SO, Apple Valley, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson HS) dished out 29 assists, while adding four kills and four digs.

FOR THE FOES
• Hannah Striggow led led River Falls with 15 kills, while adding eight digs.
• Mallory Griffin and Hailey Huseth split setting duties for the Falcons, combining for 37 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Despite an incredible 18.5 team block effort, Augsburg dropped a hard-fought five-set match to the UW-Stevens Point on the first day of the UW-Eau Claire Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament on Friday.
• The Auggies put together their second-best blocking performance of the season, but unfortunately committed too many attack errors to overcome a talented UW-Stevens Point squad.
• Offensively, Augsburg had one of its most balanced efforts of the season, with Jordan Weeding (SR, Greenfield, Minn./Rockford HS), Taylor Linn (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Ellie Schwartz (SO, Woodbury, Minn./Hill Murray HS) all posting 11 kills apiece, while Corrina Evans (FY, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) added 10 kills and Megan Quam (SO, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) added seven.
• Defensively, Macey Terhell (JR, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) picked up 30 digs, her second 30-plus dig performance of the season. Tayah Barnes (FY, Preston, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) tied a season-best with 16 digs, while Stephanie Heschel (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS) added 10 digs.
Morgan Malley (JR, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) captained the Augsburg offense, dishing out 47 assists, while picking up 15 digs and adding a season-best seven blocks (one solo).
• Evans and Linn also posted seven blocks apiece for the Auggies.

FOR THE FOES
• UW-Stevens Point was led by an impressive 25 kill performance by April Gehl, who also picked up 14 digs, while adding two service aces.
• Kendra Kundinger picked up 36 digs, while Ellie Adams dished out 47 assists.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (10/11) at 7 p.m., hosting on the College of Saint Benedict in a key MIAC matchup at Si Melby Hall.
