No. 8 Johnnies pull away in 2nd half to top Auggies

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. -- Scoring 35 points in the second half, the Saint John's University football team scored a 49-3 victory over visiting Augsburg University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint John's outgained Augsburg by a 557-195 margin in the game -- 281-58 in the second half -- and held the ball for 37:10, compared to 22:50 for Augsburg. The Johnnies also took advantage of three Augsburg turnovers to pull away. The Johnnies scored on five straight drives in the second half. Saint John's is ranked No. 8 in the latest D3football.com Division III national poll and No. 10 in the latest American Football Coaches Association Division III national poll.
• Augsburg's lone score came just before halftime, when kicker Tyler Hanson (JR, Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) connected on a 29-yard field goal, capping a 12-play, 67 yard drive.
• Quinn Frisell (JR, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) completed 11-of-31 passes for 126 yards, with Ray Guyton Jr. (JR, Stockton, Calif./St. Mary's HS) catching six passes for 62 yards. Kyle Hughes (SR, Minnetonka, Minn./Minneapolis Washburn HS) caught two passes for 21 yards.
• Tiras Bolton (SR, Omaha, Neb./Omaha Westside HS) rushed 17 times for 52 yards.
• Derek Glynn (SO, Lonsdale, Minn./Faribault HS) led all players with 11 tackles (five solo), while Chris Barr (SR, Centerville, Ohio/Centerville HS) had nine tackles (four solo). Matt Bowlin (SR, Chaska, Minn./Holy Angels HS) had nine tackles (three solo) and an interception, and Jacob Bom (JR, Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka HS) had eight tackles (seven solo).
• Jermaine Borward (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Tartan HS) had a quarterback sack to go along with four tackles, while Mustafa Adam (SO, River Falls, Wis.) and Barclay Bates (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) split a sack, with Borward recording seven tackles (four solo) in the game.
• Glenn Meyers (SR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS), who leads the MIAC's overall statistics in punting average (40.6 yards per-punt), averaged 42.5 yards on eight punts in the game.

FOR THE FOES
• Dusty Krueger rushed 20 times for 138 yards and three touchdowns -- a two-yarder in the second quarter, 21-yarder in the third quarter and 1-yarder in the fourth quarter. Thirteen different Johnnies had rushes in the game, as the hosts rushed for 305 yards on 51 carries. Adam Essler rushed 10 times for 65 yards, and Brice Johnston rushed three times for 26 yards and a touchdown.
• Jackson Erdmann completed 16-of-22 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns -- a 37-yarder to Evan Clark in the second quarter and an 18-yarder to Tommy Auger in the third quarter. Auger caught four passes for 52 yards, Clark caught two passes for 45 yards and Jared Streit caught three passes for 51 yards.
• Danny Pietruszewski had eight tackles (five solo), 2.5 tackles for loss and a half-sack, sharing it with Nathan Brinker, who had five tackles (three solo). Trevor Dittberner also had a sack in the game.
• Max Jackson returned an interception 44 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
