Ach scores twice, Auggies complete sweep of Royals

BLAINE, Minn. -- Emily Ach (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) scored two goals, including the eventual game-winner early in the third period, lifting Augsburg University to a 3-2 win and a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey series sweep of Bethel University on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Ach scored both goals on assists by McKenna Ellena (FY, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS), the Auggies' first goal at the 15:51 mark of the first period, and the Auggies' final goal of the game, at the 4:27 mark of the third period. The assists marked the first two points of Ellena's collegiate career, while Ach now has two goals and an assist.
• Trailing 2-1 after two periods, the Auggies tied the game 89 seconds into the third period, when Bridget Walter (JR, Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Kayla Murray (JR, Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam HS). Both Walter and Murray, a transfer from Adrian (Mich.), now have a goal and assist on the year. 
• Both Augsburg and Bethel had 25 shots on-goal in the game. Ach had five shots, while Megan Johnson (JR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) and Mackenzie Molnar (SO, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had three shots each.
• McKenna Manalli (JR, Byron, Ill./Byron HS) improved to 3-0-0 on the season in goal, claiming 23 saves.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg has now outscored its opponents by a 13-7 margin through the first four games of the season, with 15 different players figuring in the scoring. Nine different Auggies have scored goals on the year.

FOR THE FOES
• Bethel scored the opening goal of the game at the 11:42 mark of the first period, when Bri Stafne scored from Kaitlyn VanTassel. VanTassel gave the Royals a 2-1 lead at the 8:04 mark of the second period, scoring a power-play goal from Erika Geary.
• Michelle Klimstra had 22 saves in goal for the Royals.

• Augsburg returns to MIAC play with a series against Saint Mary's next weekend. The Auggies host the Cardinals on Friday (11/17) at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink, with the Auggies traveling to Winona, Minn., to take on the Cardinals next Saturday (11/18) at 2 p.m.
• Bethel hosts Concordia-Moorhead in a series next Friday and Saturday.
