NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Augsburg University men's basketball team had a chance to tied things up with one second remaining, but couldn't convert as the Auggies fell 66-64 to tough Carleton College team in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening at West Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The contest was a tight affair from start to finish with neither team able to extend their lead to more than seven. The final two minutes of the game were a thriller for fans as Carleton hit a 3-pointer with 1:41 to play to go up 63-60. Augsburg'sÂ
Harry Sonie (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) hit two big free throws to pull within one on the next possession. The Knights came down the floor and got off two three point attempts beforeÂ
Booker Coplin (SO, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) could pull down the defensive rebound. Coplin was fouled on the Auggies next possession and hit a pair of free throws to give Augsburg a 64-63 lead with 44 seconds to play. Carleton hit another three-pointer from the top of the key to give the Knights a 66-64 lead with just 32 seconds left in the action. The Auggies turned the ball over twice but were able to force a five-second call as the Knights attempted to in-bound the ball from under the Auggies basket with six ticks left on the clock. Augsburg drew up a play and had a good look at a lay-up with one second left in the action, but couldn't convert as the Auggies fell to MIAC foe Carleton.
• Augsburg was led offensively by Sonie and
Collin Olmscheid (SR, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS), who scored 13 points apiece. Sonie was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line and added five rebounds. Olmscheid finished 5-of-9 from the field and added three rebounds and a pair of steals.

Henry Mulligan (SO, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS) also finished in double figures for Augsburg, including a team-best 3-of-6 performance from three-point range.
• On the boards,
Nick Sabatke (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) paced Augsburg, pulling down six rebounds, while adding eight points.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 40.4 percent from the field (21-of-52), while Carleton connected on 49.1 percent (28-of-57) of its shot attempts. Augsburg was able to hit nine 3-pointers on the evening, compared to just three for the Knights, but Carleton posted a 38-20 advantage in points in the paint and a 35-27 advantage on the boards.
FOR THE FOES
• Carleton finished with two players posting double-doubles on the evening. Kevin Grow led the way with a 16-point, 10-rebound effort, his sixth double-double of the season.
• Kent Hanson also added a 12-point, 11-rebound effort to lead the Knights.
• The Knights have now won 17-straight MIAC regular season games.

• Augsburg is now off for the finals/holiday break and will return to action traveling to Las Vegas, Nev. to take part in the D3hoops.com Classic. The Auggies will take on Carroll University at 4 p.m. on Thursday (12/28) and Wartburg College on Saturday (12/30) also at 4 p.m.
