Balanced scoring attack leads Augsburg past Carleton

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University women's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack, finishing with four players in double figures, to claim an important Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over Carleton College on Wednesday evening at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg found its offensive rhythm, posting its second-best shooting performance of the season. The Auggies finished the game shooting 48.1 percent (26-of-54) from the floor, which included shooting 60.0 percent or better in the first and third quarters. Four different Auggies finished in double figures, led by a game-high 23 points from Tamira McLemore (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS). McLemore finished 8-of-15 from the floor and added four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.
• The Auggies jumped out to a 25-19 first quarter lead, but Carleton was always able to keep within striking distance. The Knights battled every step of the way and pulled within one at 81-80 with only 26 seconds remaining. Augsburg's Arianna Jones (SO, Brooklyn  Park, Minn./Osseo HS) hit 3-of-4 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the victory for Augsburg.
• K'Aezha Wubben (SO, SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Hpokins HS), Aiza Wilson (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) and Jones all posted offensive season-best performances for the Auggies. Wubben finished with 18 points and added a season-best five rebounds, while Wilson finished 5-for-7 from the floor and connected on a game-high four three-pointers. Jones recorded 12 points and picked up a game-high four steals to go along with a pair of assists.
• On the boards, Bridget Bednar (SR, Pierz, Minn./Pierz HS) tied Wubben with a team-best five rebounds, to go along with a team-high four assists.
• The Augsburg defense forced Carleton to commit a season-high 20 turnovers, while the Auggie offense tied a season best, only committing 13 turnovers on the night.
• The Auggie reserves claimed a 20-9 advantage in bench points, but the Knights picked up a 43-24 advantage on the boards.

 FOR THE FOES
• Carleton finished with three players posting double-doubles on the night. Anne Hamilton paced the offense with a 21-point, 10-rebound, four-assist effort. She finished 5-for-6 from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 at the free throw line.
• Cece Leone added a 12-point, 11-rebounds effort, while Samantha Cooke put up 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Knights. 
• Katie Chavez dished out a game-high seven assists to go along with 17 points.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (12/16) at 1 p.m. when the Auggies travel across town to take on Northwestern-St. Paul in nonconference action.
• Carleton also returns to action on Saturday (12/16), when the Knights travel to Chicago, Ill. to take on North Park University.
