Auggies get back on winning track, 1-0 over Williams

MINNEAPOLIS -- Mikayla Jones (SO, Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) scored the lone goal of the game, and Rebecca Sonnek (SR, Edina, Minn./Edina HS) claimed her sixth career shutout in goal, as the Augsburg University women's hockey team scored a 1-0 triumph over Williams College in a nonconference contest on Sunday.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 1, Williams (Mass.) 0
LOCATION: Ed Saugestad Rink, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 7-3-1 overall, Williams 4-3-2 overall

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Jones gave the Auggies the lead on a backhand goal that deflected off the inside of the crossbar and into the net at the 10:16 mark of the second period, assisted by Mackenzie Molnar (SO, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) and Megan Robertson (SR, Boissevain, Manitoba, Boissevain HS). The goal was Jones' team-leading fifth of the season.
• Jones' goal was part of a 12-6 shots-on-goal advantage for the Auggies in the second period. Augsburg ended out outshooting Williams by a 25-23 margin in the game.
• In just her third start and fourth game of the campaign, after missing seven games following an injury in the first game of the season, Sonnek stopped all 23 shots she faced in goal to claim her first shutout of the season and sixth of her career.
• Robertson had five shots on-goal in the game, while Nikki Nightengale (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) had four shots.
• Augsburg snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory.
