Speese and McLemore lead Auggies past Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Camryn Speese (FY, Bloomington, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) and Tamira McLemore (FY, Eagan, Minn.) led the Augsburg College women's basketball team
in a 65-54 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening at Memorial Auditorium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Speese and McLemore led the Auggies to an important MIAC victory over Concordia. In the win, Speese posted her second double-double of her Auggie career, with a 15-point, 10-rebound effort, while McLemore scored a game-high 18 points, while adding nine rebounds and tying a season-best with six steals. McLemore leads the Auggies with 50 steals on the season, while ranking second in the MIAC in steals per-game (2.5). 
• After trailing 28-24 at the half, the Auggies used a big third quarter, outscoring the Cobbers 24-11 in the frame, to pull ahead for good. 
Hannah Steinhaus (JR, Waterville, Minn./Waterville-Elysian-Morristown HS) finished with seven points, six rebounds and four steals.
Arianna Jones (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) led the Auggies with three assists, while chipping in seven points and five rebounds.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 38.5 percent (25-of-65) from the field, while Concordia was held to 35.2 percent (19-of-54) shooting. 
• Augsburg claimed a 28-10 advantage in points in the paint and won the turnover battle 24-10. The Auggies converted those turnovers into a 29-6 advantage in points off-turnovers.
 
FOR THE FOES
• Concordia was led by Kirstin Simmons, who posted an 11-point, 13-rebound double double. Simmons shot 5-of-6 from the floor, while adding an assist and a blocked shot.
• Also scoring in double figures for the Cobbers was Cassidy Rahman, who finished with 11 points, five rebounds and a pair of steals.
• Concordia claimed a 48-42 advantage on the boards.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (2/4) at 1 p.m., when the Auggies travel to Northfield, Minn. to take on Carleton College.
• The Cobbers also return to action on Saturday (2/4) when they travel to St. Paul, Minn. to take on Macalester College.
