MINNEAPOLIS -- Outshooting its opponent by a 40-10 margin, the Augsburg College women's lacrosse team opened its 2017 campaign with an 18-4 triumph over Carroll University on Saturday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

Rachel Frantz (SR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS),
Helena Nguyen (JR, Maple Grove, Minn.) and
Izzy Snow (SO, Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) scored four goals each for Augsburg, with Snow adding two assists for a six-point night.

Delaney Everett (JR, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) scored three goals with two assists, and
Dezera Sieracki (SR, Wyoming, Minn./Centennial HS) scored a goal with two assists. Jesse Heusinkveld (JR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) and
Demey Everett (FY, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) also scored goals, and
Mikayla Knudson (FY, Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River HS) and
Ashley Pettipiece (JR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) had assists.
• Augsburg scored the first nine goals of the game and held a 9-1 halftime advantage. Frantz scored three of the first six goals of the game, and Nguyen claimed three second-half goals.
• Augsburg outshot Carroll by a 40-10 margin -- 22-5 in the first half and 18-5 in the second half. The Auggies also converted 13-of-21 clearing attempts, compared to 14-of-35 for Carroll. The Auggies also had 32 ground balls to Carroll's 21, while Carroll committed 41 turnovers, compared to Augsburg's 28.
• Everett had eight ground balls, eight draw controls and eight caused turnovers in the game, while Sieracki had six ground balls and six caused turnovers. Snow had four caused turnovers and two draw controls.

Marissa Guillou (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had five saves in goal to pick up the win.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg opened its fourth season of competition on Saturday as the oldest varsity women's lacrosse program in Minnesota.
• Augsburg held the lead for all but the opening 43 seconds of the game.
FOR THE FOES
• Ariannah Ritter scored two goals for Carroll, while Darby Henjum and Amanda Ferr also scored goals. Laura Hamilton had an assist.
• Ferr had five caused turnovers, while Katie Majewski had five draw controls. Hamilton had four caused turnovers and four ground balls.
• Shelby Schoob had 15 saves in goal for the Pioneers.
