Auggie women advance to MIAC title game with 3-1 win

MINNEAPOLIS -- Callen Naasz (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) scored two third-period goals, lifting the Augsburg College women's hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoff semifinal game on Saturday afternoon at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
12456• Naasz broke a 1-1 tie just 60 seconds into the third period, assisted by Bridget Wagner (FY, Niles, Ill./Maine South HS), then capped the victory with a goal, her team-leading 13th of the season, from Darby Lindgren (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) and Wagner at the 12:51 mark of the frame.
• Concordia opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 8:53 mark of the second period, but Augsburg tied the game 74 seconds later, as Megan Robertson (JR, Boissevain, Manitoba) scored from Emily Ach (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) and Bridget Walter (SO, Princeton, Minn.). 
• After a scoreless first period where Concordia outshot Augsburg 11-8, the Auggies began to take control of the momentum, eventually outshooting the Cobbers by a 37-30 margin in the game.
• Goalie Rebecca Sonnek (JR, Edina, Minn.) continued her outstanding season in the net for the Auggies, collecting 29 saves to improve to 16-6-0 on the season, the second-most wins in a single season for an Auggie goalie in school history, behind the 17 wins (17-6-1) for Meg Schmidt in 1999-2000. 
• Lindgren had eight shots on-goal for the Auggies, while Ach had seven shots.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• With the win, Augsburg, the No. 2 seed in the five-team MIAC postseason playoffs, will host the MIAC playoff championship game against No. 4-seed St. Thomas next Saturday (3/4) at a time to be determined later at Ed Saugestad Rink. St. Thomas advanced to the finals with a 3-2 overtime win at top-seed Gustavus on Saturday. The Auggies will compete in the MIAC finals for the first time since the 2003-04 season. St. Thomas topped Augsburg 6-5 in two overtimes in the 2004 conference final, played on March 4, 2004 at St. Thomas. Augsburg is hosting the MIAC final for the first time since the 1999-2000 campaign, when it topped Gustavus in a two-game series to advance to the inaugural AWCHA Division III national finals.
• Naasz's 13 goals are now tied for seventh-most among MIAC players in overall statistics, while her 23 points are also seventh-most.
• Sonnek is currently in the No. 2 spot in all three MIAC goalkeeping statistics -- goals against-average (1.24), save percentage (.946) and winning percentage (.727). Her 16 wins are tops among all MIAC goalies.
• Augsburg has now outscored its opponents by a 72-36 margin this season, with the goals scored and goals allowed both second among MIAC teams in overall statistics.

FOR THE FOES
• Amanda Flemming scored the lone goal of the game for Concordia, a power-play goal at the 8:53 mark of the second period, assisted by Chelsey Petrich and Jessica Kongelf. 
• Andrea Klug had 34 saves in goal for Concordia.
