Olmscheid posts double-double, Auggies fall to Carleton

MINNEAPOLIS -- Collin Olmscheid (JR, Buffalo, Minn.) posted his fifth double-double of the season, but the Augsburg College men's basketball team fell 76-71 to Carleton College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at West Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• A Kevin McKiernan (SO, Savage, Minn., Prior Lake HS) jumper with six seconds remaining brought the Auggies within two, trailing 73-71. After a timeout from each team, Augsburg fouled and Carleton's Mitchell Biewen hit 1-of-2 from the free-throw line, giving the Knights a 74-71 lead. Carleton grabbed the offensive rebound off the missed second free throw and Augsburg was again forced to foul. The Knights hit 2-of-2 to steal the 76-71 win.
• Olmscheid led the Augsburg offense with 20 points, shooting 7-of-13 from the field, while grabbing 11 rebounds, a block and a steal.
• McKiernan nearly posted his first double-double of the season, finishing with 19 points and nine rebounds. McKiernan went 10-for-12 from the free-throw line in the game.
• Also finishing in double figures for the Auggies was Henry Mulligan (FY, Iowa City, Iowa), who tied a season-high with 12 points, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the field.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 50.0 percent (24-of-48) from the field, while Carleton converted on 48.3 percent (28-of-58) of its shot attempts.
• Carleton claimed a narrow 29-26 advantage on the boards.

FOR THE FOES
• The Carleton offense was led by Henry Bensen and Kent Hanson, who came off the bench to score 20 and 16 points respectively.
• The Knights outscored the Auggies 36-14 in points in the paint.

UP NEXT
• The Auggies return to action on Wednesday (2/8) at 7 p.m., when they travel to Collegeville, Minn. to take on Saint John's University.
• Carleton also returns to action on Wednesday (2/8), when the Knights travel to St. Paul, Minn. to take on Macalester College.
