Auggies drop opener of trip to Kentucky

DANVILLE, Ky. -- Helena Nguyen (JR, Maple Grove, Minn.) scored four goals to lead the Augsburg College women's lacrosse team, but a first-half run was too much to overcome in a 22-13 loss at Centre College on Saturday, starting the Auggies' two-game spring break trip to Kentucky.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg and Centre were tied 4-4 after the first 8:02 of play, but Centre scored nine of the next 10 goals over a nine-minute span, eventually taking a 15-6 halftime advantage.
• Centre outshot Augsburg by a 46-25 margin in the game, including a 30-14 advantage in the second half.
• Nguyen scored four goals, including two free-position goals, while also contributing a ground ball in the game.
• Delaney Everett (JR, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) scored two goals with four ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers. Izzy Snow (SO, Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) also scored two goals, with five ground balls, four caused turnovers and three draw controls.
• Mikayla Knudson (FY, Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River HS) scored two goals with four ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control, and Rachel Frantz (SR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) scored two goals with four ground balls, a caused turnover and a draw control.
• Ashley Pettipiece (JR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) scored a goal with an assist, and Christina Nelson (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) had an assist, two ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.
• Centre had 24 draw controls to Augsburg's 13. Both teams had 19 turnovers. Augsburg converted 21-of-28 clearing attempts, while Centre converted 22-of-25.
