Auggies suffer doubleheader defeat to Royals

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College baseball team dropped a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader to Bethel University on Tuesday afternoon, falling 5-1 and 7-1.

THE BASICS

RECORDS: Augsburg 13-15 overall (1-7 MIAC), Bethel 21-5 overall (6-2 MIAC)

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg took an early lead, as Clayton Bodine (SO, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) singled and came around to score on a two-out single by Rhett Hebig (SR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS). But Bethel scored all five of its runs in the final two innings of the seven-inning contest.
• Augsburg was limited to four hits in the game, with Bodine going 2-for-3 and Hebig and Tyler "Jonesy" Buescher (SR, Prior Lake, Minn.) each hitting singles. 
• Jacob Kari (JR, North Branch, Minn.) struck out three while walking one in 5.1 innings of work. Jordan Brandt (SR, Eagan, Minn.) and Bodine pitched in relief.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg scored its lone run in the fifth inning, as Jack Duffy (SR, Fridley, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) singled, moved to second on an error and third on a groundout, then scored on an RBI groundout by Jordan DeCroock (JR, Farmington, Minn.). Duffy led the Auggies with two hits in the game.
• The game was a close one until the ninth inning, when the Royals scored four runs, including a three-run homer by Austin Ledin.
• Josh Marlowe (SR, North St. Paul, Minn.) hit a double in the ninth inning for the Auggies.
• Charles Linder (SO, Harris, Minn./North Branch HS) had five strikeouts in 6.1 innings of pitching for the Auggies.

FOR THE FOES
• Brett Neuville went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the first game, scoring a run, while Sam Horner went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
• Michael Willman struck out four while walking two in five innings of work, with Jake Marsh striking out two and not allowing a hit in the final two innings to score the save.
• Neuville went 2-for-5 in the second game with a run scored, while Horner went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored.
