Cobbers walk-off pair of wins over Auggies

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Augsburg College baseball team out-hit Concordia College-Moorhead by a 24-21 margin, but the Cobbers rallied for walk-off wins in both games of a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

DOUBLEHEADER HIGHLIGHTS
Clayton Bodine (SO, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) went 5-for-8 at the plate for the Auggies with three doubles, scoring four runs.
Eric Olheiser (SR, Maplewood, Minn./Tartan HS) went 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI, and Tyler "Jonesy" Buescher (SR, Prior Lake, Minn.) went 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Cobbers scored six runs to claim the win, with the final four runs coming on a two-out, grand-slam home run by Nate Leintz.
• Augsburg scored twice in the second inning. Jack Duffy (SR, Fridley, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) was hit by a pitch and Bodine hit a double, and the two came across on an RBI groundout by Buescher and a sacrifice fly by Olheiser.
• Bodine hit his second double of the game in the fourth inning and scored on an RBI double by Olheiser. In the seventh, pinch-hitter Zach Bakko (JR, Northfield, Minn.) singled, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and single, and scored on an RBI groundout by Josh Marlowe (SR, North St. Paul, Minn.).
Jamie Kaye (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) struck out one in 6.2 innings of pitching for the Auggies in the first game.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg held a 5-4 lead after eight innings in the second game, but the Cobbers rallied to tie the game with a run in the bottom of the ninth, then scored an unearned run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th to claim the doubleheader sweep.
• The Auggies tied the Cobbers 1-1 in the second inning, as consecutive singles by Bodine, Buescher and Olheiser plated a run.
• Augsburg scored three runs in the top of the sixth, as Duffy led off the inning with a solo home run, Bodine doubled and scored on a double by Olheiser, and Mike Brookshaw (SO, Prescott, Wis.) drove home a run on a sacrifice fly.
• Bakko hit an RBI groundout to drive home Buescher with a run in the top of the eighth inning.
Lincoln Hochmuth (SR, Cannon Falls, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) struck out two in seven innings of pitching for the Auggies. Jordan Brandt (SR, Eagan, Minn.) struck out three in two innings of relief.
•  Bodine and Buescher had three hits and scored two runs each for the Auggies in the second game, while Duffy, Olheiser and Rhett Hebig (SR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) had two hits each.

FOR THE FOES
• Turner Storm went 5-for-9 in the doubleheader with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored for Concordia. Chad Johnson went 3-for-7 with three RBI, a home run and three runs scored. He hit a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning prior to Leintz's grand slam.
• Fletcher Andel struck out three while walking two in a complete-game performance in the first game.
• The Cobbers tied the second game on an RBI single by Leintz in the bottom of the ninth, and a two-out RBI single by Storm drove in the game-winning run in the 10th.

• Augsburg hosts Saint Mary's in a MIAC doubleheader on Wednesday (4/19) at 2:30 p.m. at Parade Stadium.
• Concordia hosts Jamestown (N.D.) in a nonconference game on Monday (4/17) at 1 p.m.
