ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The No. 25-ranked University of St. Thomas claimed a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader sweep of visiting Augsburg College on Sunday afternoon, winning 5-2 and 8-0 (5 innings).

• Augsburg scored twice in the top of the first inning.
Carly Dropik (SO, Alexandria, Minn.) led off the game with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a sacrifice bunt, then scored on a groundout byÂ

Brianna Cline (SR, St. Clair, Minn.), who had reached base on a walk, scored on a single by

• The Tommies went ahead on a three-run home run by Chase Shortly in the third inning, then scored two more runs in the fifth inning to pull away.
• Augsburg had four hits in the first game -- singles by Dropik and Dale in the first inning, a single by
Hollywood Hermanson (FY, Dover, Minn./Dover-Eyota HS) in the second inning, and a single by
Lauren Hurley (SR, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) in the seventh.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• St. Thomas scored three runs in the third inning, then added five runs in the fourth inning to end the game in the following frame due to the NCAA eight-run rule.
• Augsburg was limited to four hits in the second game -- singles by Parker in the second inning, Dropik in the third inning,Â
Taylor Mattice (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Cenntenial HS) in the fourth inning and Hurley in the fifth.
FOR THE FOES
• In addition to Shortly's homer, Elise Barnes hit a solo home run in the first game for St. Thomas.
• Brenna Walek went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI in the second game, while Shortley and Jenna Beeso had two hits each, with each driving in two runs.
