Auggies finish successful weekend with win over Knights

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College women's lacrosse team completed a successful weekend of Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference action with its third straight victory, a 9-7 triumph over Wartburg College on Sunday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Izzy Snow (SO, Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) scored four goals to lead the Auggies in the victory, giving her 10 goals and an assist in this weekend's pair of games. She scored the Auggies' final two goals of the game in a 27-second span late in the game, after the Knights had cut the Auggies' lead to 7-6 with 5:57 left.
• Sunday's game was a close one, with neither team leading by more than three goals. Tied 3-3 at halftime, Wartburg took the lead with a goal 2:44 into the second half, but Augsburg ran off four straight goals to take a 7-4 advantage with 13:28 left. The Knights scored two goals in a 1:12 span to trim the lead to 7-6, but Snow's two goals gave the Auggies a three-goal cushion entering the final minute.
Helena Nguyen (JR, Maple Grove, Minn.) scored two goals, both on free-position shots, while adding a caused turnover for the Auggies.
• Ashley Pettipiece (JR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) scored a goal with an assist, ground ball, draw control and a caused turnover.
Christina Nelson (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) claimed five draw controls, six ground balls and two caused turnovers on the day.
Mikayla Knudson (FY, Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River HS) scored a goal with three caused turnovers, five ground balls and a draw control, and Rachel Frantz (SR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) scored a goal with three draw controls, two caused turnovers and a ground ball.
Dezera Sieracki (SR, Wyoming, Minn./Centennial HS) had two assists, two caused turnovers and a ground ball. Delaney Everett (JR, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) had an assist, six ground balls, two caused turnovers and a ground ball.
Marissa Guillou (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had eight saves in goal, along with a ground ball and caused turnover.
• Augsburg outshot Wartburg by a 30-23 margin, and had 11 draw controls to Wartburg's seven. The Auggies converted 16-of-20 clearing attempts, compared to 16-of-28 for Wartburg.

FOR THE FOES
• Alex Pollock scored three goals with two ground balls and two draw controls to lead the Knights.
• Sophia Corpstein scored two goals with an assist, adding three draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
• Marisa Falco had five ground balls and four caused turnovers, and Laura Sinkovitz had 12 saves in goal.

• Augsburg has its next three games on the road, starting with a pair of games in Wisconsin next weekend. The Auggies play at Beloit (Wis.) in an MWLC game next Saturday (4/8) at 4 p.m., then play a nonconference game at Carthage (Wis.) next Sunday (4/9) at 11 a.m.
