MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College softball team claimed a pair of walk-off wins in two very different fashions, scoring a doubleheader sweep of Bethel University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Edor Nelson Field.

SCORES: Augsburg 1, Bethel 0 (10 inn.); Augsburg 11, Bethel 10
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis, Minn.
RECORD: Augsburg 21-13 overall (9-7 MIAC), Bethel 9-18 overall (5-10 MIAC).
DOUBLEHEADER HIGHLIGHTS
•
Carly Dropik (SO, Alexandria, Minn.) and
Brianna Cline (SR, St. Clair, Minn.) had four hits each in the doubleheader, with Cline scoring twice and driving in a run, and Dropik scoring once, hitting a double and driving in a run.
• With the wins, Augsburg improved to 21-13 on the season, its second straight 20-plus win season and sixth in the last 10 years.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
•
Samantha Anderson (SO, Coon Rapids, Minn.) tied a career-high with 14 strikeouts to record her sixth shutout of the season and eighth of her career. Now 12-7 on the year, Anderson allowed just three hits and two walks in her 10 innings of work, throwing 84 strikes among her 134 pitches in the game. It's the sixth time she's recorded 10-plus strikeouts in a game in her career.
• The game was a pitchers' duel between Anderson and Bethel's Anna Nichols, who both pitched complete-game efforts. Nichols struck out three while allowing five hits and four walks, as the Auggies stranded eight runners on base in the game.
• With the "international tiebreaker" in effect in the 10th inning -- where the last batter from the previous inning is placed on second base -- Bethel advanced its runner to third on a groundout, but Anderson struck out the next two batters to end the frame. In the bottom of the inning,
Amanda Niznik (SR, Columbia Heights, Minn.) was placed on second, and after Dropik was hit by a pitch, Cline reached base on a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt, sending Niznik home with the game-winning run.
• Cline had two of Augsburg's five hits in the game. Niznik also hit a double for the Auggies.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Trailing 10-5 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Auggies sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs to steal the victory, extending its winning streak to five straight games.
•
Hollywood Hermanson (FY, Dover, Minn./Dover-Eoyta HS) led off the seventh inning with a walk, and pinch-runner
Anesia King (FY, Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) moved to third on a ground-rule double by
Lauren Hurley (SR, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS). Niznik singled to bring home King, and pinch-runner
Nell Gehrke (FY, Northfield, Minn.) came home on an RBI single by
Taylor Mattice (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Centennial HS). The bases were loaded on an infield bunt single by
Jacquline Nichols (SO, Royalton, Minn.), and Cline walked to bring home another run. Dropik hit an RBI single to tie the game, and after
Haley Larson (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Prior Lake HS) reached base on a fielding error, Hermanson hit a short grounder which was bobbled by a fielder, enabling Cline to beat the throw home for the game-winning run.
• Bethel led off the second game with two runs in the top of the first, but the Auggies scored three runs in the bottom of the inning. Cline scored after Parker reached base on a fielding error, Dropik singled and scored on a fielder's choice bunt by Hermanson, and Parker scored on an RBI grounder by Hurley.
• The Auggies scored a run on a bases-loaded walk in the second inning, and after Bethel scored six runs in the third, a run in the fourth and a run in the fifth to take a 10-4 lead, the Auggies cut the lead to 10-5 in the bottom of the fifth, after Larson doubled and scored on an RBI groundout by Niznik.
• Dropik went 4-for-5 for the Auggies in the second game, scoring a run and driving in a run, while Cline went for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Hurley and Nichols also had two hits, with Hurley driving in a run and Nichols scoring two runs.
