WINONA, Minn. -- The Augsburg College softball team had its five-game winning streak snapped with a doubleheader loss at Saint Mary's University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Sunday.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

Samantha Anderson (SO, Coon Rapids, Minn.) pitched a 10-inning complete game for her second start in a row, striking out six while walking two and allowing six hits. Anderson, who had pitched two straight shutouts prior to Sunday, saw her personal scoreless inning streak stopped at 23, when Saint Mary's tied the game with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
• Augsburg scored its lone run in the sixth inning, when
Lauren Hurley (SR, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) drove home
Katie Parker (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) on a single.
• With the "international tiebreaker" in effect in the 10th inning -- where the last batter from the previous inning is placed on second base -- Augsburg was unable to score, but the Cardinals scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the frame, as an error on a sacrifice attempt and a single plated the Saint Mary's runner.
• Hurley had three of Augsburg's six hits in the first game, with Parker,
Haley Larson (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Prior Lake HS) and
Taylor Mattice (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Centennial HS) claiming the other hits.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Saint Mary's scored all three of its runs in the first inning, while the Auggies scored a single run in the top of the seventh. Augsburg had a runner on base and the potential tying run at the plate, but a infield popout ended the game.
• In the seventh,
Amanda Niznik (SR, Columbia Heights, Minn.) led off the inning by reaching base on an error, moved to second on a wild pitch and third on a passed ball, and scored on an RBI single by
Brianna Cline (SR, St. Clair, Minn.).
• The Cardinals used three hits and a walk by its first four batters of the game to score two runs, then scored another run later in the inning following a fielding error.

Courtney Larsen (SR, Little Canada, Minn./Concordia Academy HS) pitched a complete-game effort for Augsburg, striking out two while walking one and allowing seven hits.
• Cline and Anderson each had two hits in the second game, with Hurley adding the other hit for the Auggies.
FOR THE FOES
• Brittney Birkhauser had four hits and an RBI to lead the Cardinals in the doubleheader, while Haley Vanourney had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.
• Ashley Betzold pitched 14 of the 17 innings for the Cardinals in the doubleheader, scoring both wins with nine strikeouts against five walks. Amber Trendle pitched three innings of relief in the second game to claim the save.
