Auggies open MIAC action with 3-1 win over Wildcats

MINNEAPOLIS -- Ashley St. Aubin (SO, Burnsville, Minn.) scored a pair of goals for the third time this season, leading the Augsburg University women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over St. Catherine University in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference-opener for both teams on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg struck first in the 16th minute, as St. Aubin scored an unassisted goal from the center of the penalty box.
• Ciara Gregory (SO, Cottage Grove, Minn./Park HS) gave the Auggies the lead in the 76th minute, slotting home a perfect centering pass from St. Aubin, who had driven to the left corner of the penalty box. 
• St. Aubin capped the scoring with a goal with 1:01 left in the game, as she took a pass from deep in the Augsburg end by Nora Edelen (JR, Middleton, Wis./Middleton HS), and sprinted past the defense to put home her sixth goal of the year.
• Augsburg outshot St. Catherine by a 14-10 margin in the game. St. Aubin had four shots, while Gregory and Callie Athey (FY, Eagan, Minn./Burnsville HS) had three shots each.
• Emily Chapman (SO, Elburn, Ill./Kaneland HS) claimed three saves in goal to pick up the victory.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• St. Aubin has scored two goals in each of Augsburg's three victories so far this season, and she now has six multi-goal games in her 27-game collegiate career. Last year's MIAC scoring champion in both goals and total points, she currently sits second among MIAC players in overall statistics in both goals (6) and total points (13), and now has 22 goals and eight assists for 52 points in her career.

FOR THE FOES
• Kaitlin Machovec scored for St. Catherine in the 39th minute, getting behind the defense to put home a feed from Molly Hayes.
• Jessica Perez-Adame had two saves in goal for the Wildcats.
