Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Another St. Aubin 2-goal effort, another Auggie win

MINNEAPOLIS -- For the fifth time this season, Ashley St. Aubin (SO, Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS) scored two goals in a game for the Augsburg University women's soccer team. And for the fifth time, Augsburg claimed victory, a 2-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference triumph over Saint Mary's University on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 2, Saint Mary's 1
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 5-1-1 overall (3-0-1 MIAC), Saint Mary's 5-4-0 overall (0-3-0 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• St. Aubin scored twice in a three-minute span late in the first half -- scoring on a penalty kick at the 34:58 mark, then scoring on an assist from Olivia House (SO, Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS) at the 37:58 mark. House fed St. Aubin, who sprinted from the left side into the penalty box, putting the ball across to the lower right corner of the goal. St. Aubin now leads the MIAC's overall statistics in both goals (10) and points (21).
• Augsburg controlled possession for most of the game, outshooting Saint Mary's by a 26-8 margin -- 12-4 in the first half, 14-4 in the second half -- and claiming 10 corner kicks to three for Saint Mary's.
• Goalkeepers Emily Chapman (SO, Elburn, Ill./Kaneland HS) and Marissa Guillou (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) combined for the win, with Chapman recording a save in the first half and Guillou claiming a save in the second half.
• Anneliese Peterson (FY, Chaska, Minn./Chaska HS) had five shots in the game, while St. Aubin, Nicole Ryan (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) and Natalee Lessert (FY, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) had four shots each.

FOR THE FOES
• Emily Loof scored the Cardinals' lone goal, assisted by Mary Loy, at the 84:22 mark.
• Zoe Boleneus had 11 saves in goal for Saint Mary's.

QUOTES FROM AUGSBURG HEAD COACH MIKE NAVARRE
• "It took us too long to play our style today. That being said, we eventually did well to apply pressure collectively and we circulated the ball better as the game progressed. Ashley's individual effort on her second goal was outstanding and ultimately gave us the margin we needed to get the victory."
• "Eau Claire is an athletic team, which will cause us problems in our next game Wednesday. However, it will be good for us because we need to improve our ability to handle pressure."

UP NEXT
• Augsburg hosts Wisconsin-Eau Claire in a nonconference game on Wednesday (9/27) at 7:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
• Saint Mary's hosts Bethel on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
