Augsburg drops 4-1 decision to UW-Whitewater

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Friday evening, falling 4-1 to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in a nonconference game at Edor Nelson Field.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: UW-Whitewater 4, Augsburg 1
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 3-1-0 overall, UW-Whitewater 3-1-0 overall

HOW IT HAPPENED
• In a physical game that produced 39 fouls (23 by UW-Whitewater, 16 by Augsburg), the visiting Warhawks built a 3-0 lead and took advantage of an Augsburg "own goal" before the Auggies scored in the 77th minute.
• UW-Whitewater, ranked No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) Division III preseason national poll, outshot Augsburg by a 14-10 margin in the game.
• Garrett Kaelin (SO, River Falls, Wis./Hill-Murray HS) had three saves in goal for Augsburg.

FOR THE FOES
• Peter Raymonds scored three goals for UW-Whitewater -- two unassisted goals in the first half and a penalty-kick goal in the 66th minute.
• Chris Lucatorto had four saves in goal for the Warhawks.

QUOTES FROM AUGSBURG HEAD COACH GREG HOLKER
• "This was the first time we have seen that kind of athleticism and pressure, so it took a while for us to adjust to the pace and the chaos. Once we settled in, we were pretty good. Unfortunately, we gave away some cheap goals right away and were always going to be chasing the game from then on."
• "Aidan Sim-Campos was really effective for us and provided the link we needed to break their lines. He banged one off the crossbar in the sixth minute, and that gave us a quick lift."
• "Overall, it was a game of two different styles. They were better at what they do than we were at what we do. There aren't any secrets to what we do or how we play -- we just have to execute and be sharp with the details as we move forward."
• "We look forward to hosting UW-Platteville on Sunday. Enzo is a good friend of mine, and our programs toured Italy at the same time a few years ago. They had a nice result today at Hamline, and we will be looking to bounce back and demonstrate growth and try to get some points in the game."

UP NEXT
• Augsburg hosts Wisconsin-Platteville on Sunday (9/10) at 1 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
