MINNEAPOLIS -- With each team matching the other punch for punch throughout an entertaining game, Augsburg University tied Hamline University 4-4 in overtime, in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After a scoreless first period, the teams exchanged goals the rest of the way, with Augsburg answering each Hamline goal.

Valerie Whichello (JR, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) scored Augsburg's first goal, a power-play marker from
Taral Clayton (SR, Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond HS) at the 17:41 mark of the second period. Whichello then joined
Megan Robertson (SR, Boissevain, Manitoba/Boisevaain HS) in assisting a power-play goal by
Bridget Wagner (SO, Niles, Ill./Maine South HS), who scored her sixth goal of the season, a power-play marker 5:39 into the third period.
• Hamline took a 3-2 lead two minutes later, but Augsburg answered again, as
Megan Johnson (JR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season, assisted by
Nikki Nightengale (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS), another power-play goal, at the 10:41 mark of the third period.
• Hamline took the lead three minutes later, but Augsburg tied the game at 4-4 at the 16:58 mark, as
Mikayla Jones (SO, Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) scored from Robertson.
• Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 35-33 margin in the game.
Rebecca Sonnek (SR, Edina, Minn./Edina HS) claimed 29 saves in goal for the Auggies.
• Wagner had five shots on-goal in the game, while
Emily Ach (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) and
Jacie Hoehn (JR, Waseca, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville HS) had four shots each..
• Hamline entered the weekend ranked No. 10 in the latest D3hockey.com Division III women's national poll, while receiving votes in the USCHO.com national poll. Augsburg is receiving votes in both polls.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg went 3-for-6 on the power play, marking the first time it had three power-play goals in a game since Jan. 5, 2013, when the Auggies had three power-play goals in a 13-0 home win over Finlandia (Mich.).
FOR THE FOES
• Madison Kolbow scored two goals for Hamline, including a power-play marker. Melanie Bartenstein and Bre Simon scored the other Piper goals, with Simon adding an assist for a two-point night. Darby Dodds had two assists in the game.
• Annie Juergens had 31 saves in goal for Hamline.

• Augsburg returns to MIAC play next weekend with a series against Gustavus. Next Friday's (1/19) game is at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink, and next Saturday's (1/20) game is at 2 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
