HOW IT HAPPENED
• After a 15-0 run to start the second-half, neither team was able to extend their lead to more than four points for the remainder of regulation. Augsburg's Collin Olmscheid (SR, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) hit a pair of free throws with 43 seconds remaining to put the Auggies up 67-64, but Carleton converted on a layup and drew a foul, hitting the extra shot to tie the game. • In the extra session, Carleton's Kent Hanson scored the first six points, before a pair of Augsburg jumpers cut the lead to 74-71 with 1:14 to play. Hanson converted on a pair of free throws to extend the Knight lead to 76-71 before Kevin McKiernan (JR, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS) hit a jumper and was fouled, connecting on the extra shot to cut the lead to 76-74 with just 16 seconds to play. The Auggies fouled on the inbounds play and Carleton hit 1-of-2 to extend its lead to 77-74. Augsburg had two three-point attempts in the final nine seconds, but couldn't get either to fall.
• Four of Augsburg's five starters finished in double figures, led by 19 points from Olmscheid. For the fourth consecutive game, Olmscheid has not missed from the free-throw line (8-for-8 on the night); he is a combined 23-of-23 from the charity stripe over his last four games, and has now hit 25 free throws in a row. Olmscheid leads the MIAC's overall statistics with a 90.0 free-throw percentage (63-of-70).
