Heenie ties school records, Auggies edged by Knights

MINNEAPOLIS -- Tying single-game school records for receptions and receiving touchdowns, Augsburg University's Nick Heenie (SR, Victoria, Minn./Waconia HS) caught 20 passes for 275 yards and four scores in Augsburg's 36-34 Homecoming loss to Carleton College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Carleton 36, Augsburg 34
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 2-5 overall (0-5 MIAC), Carleton 3-4 overall (2-3 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Heenie tied Augsburg's single-game record for receptions with his 20 catches, tying a mark first set by Royce Winford in a 2007 game against Carleton. His four touchdown receptions -- catches of 75 and nine yards in the first quarter, 21 yards in the second quarter and a nine-yarder late in the game -- tied a school mark set three previous times in school history, most recently by Scott Hvistendahl in a 1998 game.
• Augsburg outgained Carleton by a 557-to-241-yard margin, but were stymied by turnovers and penalties. Augsburg turned the ball over six times -- three fumbles and three interceptions -- and five of the turnovers led to Carleton touchdowns on its ensuing drives, including a 39-yard interception return for a touchdown by Travis Brown in the second quarter. Augsburg was also penalized 16 times for 151 yards in the game.
• Despite the miscues, Augsburg had a chance to rally from a nine-point deficit late, when Heenie caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from Lake with 1:10 remaining. Augsburg failed on an onside kick attempt, but Carleton was called for an offsides penalty, giving the Auggies another kick from their own 40. But the Auggies were called for offsides on the second onside attempt, giving the Knights the ball, and they were able to run out the clock to gain the win.
• Quarterback Quentin Lake (JR, Portland, Ore./Lincoln HS) had a career day, setting personal career marks in all four passing categories -- completing 33-of-49 passes for 410 yards and five touchdown passes, one shy of the school single-game record of six, set by Derrin Lamker in a 1997 game. He also rushed eight times for 75 yards, giving him a career-best 485 yards of total offense in the game. His 75-yard touchdown pass to Heenie -- on Augsburg's third play from scrimmage in the game -- is the longest play for Augsburg this season.
Nate Herber (FY, Prior Lake, Minn/Prior Lake HS) caught six passes for 51 yards, and Mike Rodriguez (JR, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) caught his first touchdown pass as an Auggie, a 19-yarder in the fourth quarter.
Derek Glynn (JR, Lonsdale, Minn./Faribault HS) led the Auggie defense with 12 tackles (three solo), including a tackle for-loss, marking his fourth double-digit tackle game of the season. Barclay Bates (SR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had nine tackles (five solo), with a sack and two tackles for-loss.
Camdin Carlson-Mathies (FY, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) recorded seven tackles (seven solo) with a tackle for-loss, while claiming his first career interception. He also blocked a Carleton extra-point attempt in the fourth quarter -- his fourth blocked kick of the season.
• Running back Keith Anthony (SR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) rushed 12 times for 51 yards.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Heenie, who is leading the MIAC in receiving yardage (992 yards), receiving yardage per-game (141.7) and receptions (69), reached the century mark in receiving for the sixth time in his seven games this season, the 14th time in his career and 13th time in his last 17 games.
• Heenie's 275 receiving yards is the second-most in a single game in school history, behind the 334 receiving yards by Joey Sonnenfeld in a 62-61 overtime win at Bethel in 2014.
• Heenie is now tied for fourth in Augsburg history with 28 receiving touchdowns in his career. His 2,577 career receiving yards are fifth-most in school history, while his 186 career receptions are tied for sixth-most.

FOR THE FOES
• Carleton quarterback Christian Zaytoun completed 26-of-47 passes for 214 yards and four touchdowns, with Fletcher Metz catching two touchdown passes -- an eight-yarder in the first quarter and five-yarder in the second quarter.
• Emanual Williams caught nine passes for 73 yards and a 14-yard touchdown reception, and Dylan Rye caught a six-yard touchdown pass for the Knights.
• Travis Brown had two interceptions for Carleton, including his 39-yarder for a touchdown in the second quarter. He also had seven tackles (six solo) and three pass breakups. Carlos Lua Pineda had 14 tackles (eight solo) and a forced fumble, and Ryan McGregor had seven tackles (six solo), with two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.
