Auggies clinch No. 3 seed in playoffs

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Augsburg University women's soccer team secured the No. 3 seed in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason playoffs with a 2-0 victory over host St. Olaf College in the regular-season finale for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Scoreless at halftime, the Auggies scored twice in a 4:12 span early in the second half to take command and secure the victory, clinching the No. 3 seed in the six-team MIAC postseason playoffs. St. Olaf finished as the No. 6 seed, so the Auggies and Oles will face each other in the quarterfinals on Tuesday (9/30) at 2 p.m. at Augsburg's Edor Nelson FIeld.
Jada Olson (JR, Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) struck first for the Auggies, scoring an unassisted goal at the 51:45 mark, moving down the left side and firing a shot from distance for her third goal of the season.
Niki Ryan (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) gave the Auggies a 2-0 lead at the 55:57 mark, taking a right-side pass from Jessy Wiskofske (SR, Wausau, Wis./Wausau West HS) and putting the ball home for her second goal of the year.
• Goalkeeper Emily Chapman (JR, Elburn, Ill./Kaneland HS) had seven saves to pick up her ninth shutout of the season -- tops among MIAC goalkeepers.
• Augsburg outshot St. Olaf by a 23-14 margin. Ashley St. Aubin (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS) had seven shots in the game, while Gabriela Encarnacion (JR, Bel Air, Md./Bel Air HS) had five shots.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg will compete in its 10th MIAC postseason playoffs since 2004. The Auggies have now reached the playoffs five seasons in a row and six times in the last seven seasons.
• It's the seventh year in a row that Augsburg has recorded double-digit victories, and its fifth straight year recording eight or more MIAC wins.

FOR THE FOES
• Brynne Davis had six saves in goal for St. Olaf.
• Mackenzie Schoustra, Claire Bash and Emily Lecy had three shots each for the Oles.
