Daniel Hedstrom (JR, Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS), sent the Auggies to the playoff title game with a 1-0 victory over the top-seeded Gusties.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The No. 5-seed Augsburg advanced to the finals of the six-team MIAC playoffs with its second postseason win at Gustavus in the last three years. The Auggies will compete at No. 2-seed Carleton (15-1-2 overall) in the playoff title game on Saturday (11/3) at 1 p.m., with the winner receiving the MIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III national tournament. In the teams' first meeting on Oct. 13, the Auggies and Knights played to a 0-0, two-overtime tie.
• A 6-foot-5 defender, Hedstrom scored his seventh goal of the season -- all on set pieces -- at the 36:59 mark, putting home a free kick by
Christian Metzger (SR, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS). Hedstrom now stands second on the team in goals and is tied for the No. 2 spot on the team in total points (15).
• Goalkeeper
Garrett Kaelin (JR, Stillwater, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) claimed four saves to earn the victory, picking up his sixth shutout of the season and Augsburg's third in a row.
• Gustavus outshot Augsburg by an 18-2 margin, including an 11-0 advantage in the second half.
Eduardo Gomez (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) had the other Auggie shot in the game.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Competing in its sixth MIAC postseason playoffs in program history, Augsburg will play in its third title game. The Auggies and Carleton played to a 0-0 draw, with Carleton winning the penalty kick shootout 5-3, in the 2008 MIAC final, and the Auggies claimed a 3-2 overtime win over Concordia-Moorhead in the 2010 MIAC final.
