ASHLAND, Wis. -- For the second consecutive season, the Augsburg University men's basketball team posted a season-opening win over Northland College. The Auggies put together a solid early-season shooting performance, outscoring the Lumberjacks 91-76 for the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• As a team, Augsburg shot 50.0 percent (31-of-62) from the field and was able to get to the free throw line an impressive 23 times, converting on 18-of-23, while only allowing the lumberjacks five attempts from the charity stripe.
• Augsburg was led by
Booker Coplin (JR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS), who posted a 28-point, 14-rebound double-double. Coplin finished 11-of-16 from the field and added a team-best five assists and a blocked shot.

Kevin McKiernan (SR, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS) also had a strong start to the season for the Auggies scoring 21 points on an 11-for-16 effort from the field, including a 3-of-4 effort from three-point range. McKiernan added five rebounds and a pair of assists.
• Also finishing in double figures for the Auggies was
Martin Mitchell (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) and
Henry Mulligan (JR, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS), who finished with 14 and 12 points respectively.
FOR THE FOES
• Northland had three players finish with double figures, led by Benny Larry Jr, who finished with 18 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-5 from three point range.
• Modesta Britten pulled down 10 rebounds for the Lumberjacks and added 14 points.
UP NEXT
• Augsburg returns to action next weekend as the Auggies travel to Redlands, Calif., to take part in the Redlands Classic. The Auggies will play Ottawa University (Ariz.) and the University of Redlands.
• Northland returns to action on Wednesday (11/14) traveling to take on Findlandia University.
