Auggies improve to 5-1-0 with series sweep of Royals

BLAINE, Minn. -- The Augsburg University men's hockey team rallied from an early 1-0 deficit with three unanswered goals to claim a series sweep of Bethel University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-1 road win on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Chandler Madry (SR, Bakersfield, Calif./Faribanks (Alaska) BEST HS) had a goal and an assist to lead the Auggies, scoring an empty-net goal with 19 seconds left to cap the victory. He assisted, with John O'Connor (JR, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS), on a power-play goal by Tommy Carey (SO, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) at the 17:46 mark of the first period.
Jake Larson (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) gave the Auggies the lead with a goal from Gunnar Goodmanson (SO, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) and Matt Nehls (SO, Boulder, Colo./D.C. West HS) at the 16:16 mark of the second period.
• Bethel outshot Augsburg by a 24-23 margin, but Auggie goalie Daniil Gerasimov (SO, Moscow, Russia/State School 1944) had 23 saves to pick up the win, improving to 4-1-0 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Through its first six games of the season, Augsburg has outscored its opponents by a 22-12 margin. Augsburg's 22 goals scored are tops among MIAC teams, while its 12 goals allowed are fewest in the MIAC.
• Eleven different Auggies have scored goals, and 17 different Auggies have figured in the scoring with goals or assists.

FOR THE FOES
• Austin Langworthy opened the game with a goal from Johan Kling for Bethel at the 1:53 mark of the first period.
• Olof Djurberg had 20 saves in goal for the Royals.
