McLemore leads Auggies past UW-Superior

MINNEAPOLIS -- Tamira McLemore (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) led all players with a game-high 22 points as the Augsburg University women's basketball team posted an important early-season win over defending Upper Midwest Athletic Conference champion University of Wisconsin-Superior at Si Melby Hall on Monday night. The win marks the second time in the past three seasons that the Auggies have started the year 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The game was a back-and-forth affair with seven tied scores and 10 lead changes, before Augsburg went on an 18-4 run to start the fourth quarter and put the game out of reach. The Auggies outscored the Yellowjackets 23-10 in the fourth quarter on their way to an important early season-win.
Tamira McLemore (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) posted her second consecutive 22-point performance, finishing 8-of-17 from the floor and 3-of-6 from three-point range. She also led all players with four steals, while adding four rebounds and a pair of assists. McLemore has now scored in double figures in 40 of her 51 career games and has 11 career games with 20-plus points.
• Also playing well for the Auggies was Kaezha Wubben (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS) and Aiza Wilson (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS). Wubben finished 6-for-9 from the floor for a season-high 14 points, while adding three assists and two boards. Wilson added 11 points, connecting on 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, while adding three rebounds and an assist.
• Camille McCoy (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) and Camryn Speese (JR, Bloomington, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) paced Augsburg on the boards, pulling down eight and six rebounds respectively.
• Captaining the Auggie offense was Arianna Jones (JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS), who dished out a team-best six assists, to go along with seven points and three steals.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 40.0 percent (26-of-65) from the field, while UW-Superior connected on 43.1 percent (22-of-51) of its shot attempts. The Auggies posted a 39-36 advantage on the boards and were able to outscore the Yellowjacktes 15-8 in second chance points.
• The Augsburg defense continued its strong play forcing 25 UW-Superior turnovers, while claiming a 36-7 advantage in points off turnovers. The Auggies have forced their opponents into 20-plus turnovers in all three of their games played this season.

 FOR THE FOES
• UW-Superior was led by the duo of Hannah Norlin and Eva Reinertsen. Norlin posted a 16-point, 15-rebound double-double, while Reinertsen scored a team-high 17 points to go along with four rebounds and a pair of assists.
• Emily Carpenter dished out a season-best 11 assist, while adding seven points and three steals for the Yellowjackets.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg returns to action Saturday-Sunday (11/24-25) taking part in the University of Wisconsin La Crosse Tournament. The Auggies play UW-Platteville on Saturday at 7 p.m., and will take on host UW-La Crosse on Sunday at 5 p.m.
