Augsburg men's hockey suffers first loss

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Wisconsin-River Falls men's hockey team scored seven of the first eight goals of the game, handing host Augsburg University its first loss of the season with a 7-3 nonconference decision on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and added a power-play goal early in the second to take a 4-0 lead. Chandler Madry (SR, Bakersfield, Calif./Fairbanks (Alaska) BEST HS) put the Auggies on the scoreboard with a goal from Alex Rodriguez (SR, Miami, Fla./Shattuck-St. Mary's (Minn.) HS) and Jason Krych (JR, Champlin, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) at the 2:56 mark of the second period, but the Falcons scored three unanswered goals to take a commanding 7-1 lead early in the third period.
• Augsburg cut into the advantage with two goals in the final frame. Lucas Niezelski (FY, Manchester, Conn./East Catholic HS) scored his first collegiate goal at the 6:15 mark, assisted by Matt Hines (FY, Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins HS) and Luke Dietsch (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS).
Charlie Parker (SO, Verona, Wis./Verona HS) scored a power-play goal from Dietsch and Krych at the 14:00 mark of the third period.
• Goalie Daniil Gerasimov (SO, Moscow, Russia/State School 1944) had nine saves in 27 minutes of action, before being relieved by Jon Albers (SO, Blaine, Minn./Centennial HS), who made his collegiate debut in goal with 11 saves in 33 minutes.
• Augsburg had a 31-27 shots on-goal advantage in the game. 

FOR THE FOES
• Eddie Matsushima scored four goals for UW-River Falls, a goal in the first period and three goals in the second, including a power-play goal and a shorthanded goal.
• Aussie Miller, Mike Sauer and Cayden Cahill also scored goals for the Falcons.
• Zach Quinn had 28 saves in goal.
