Auggie women's hockey win streak snapped by Tommies

MINNEAPOLIS -- In a battle of two of the top teams in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the University of St. Thomas women's hockey team snapped Augsburg University's five-game winning streak with a 2-0 decision on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Tommies claimed the key early-season win over the Auggies, despite being outshot by a 33-17 margin. Trailing 2-0 after two periods, Augsburg outshot St. Thomas by a 11-1 margin in the third period, but could not put the puck in the net. The Tommies also claimed 17 blocks on Augsburg shot attempts in the game.
• McKenna Manalli (SR, Byron, Ill./Byron HS) had 15 saves in goal for the Auggies.
• Mackenzie Molnar (JR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had 10 shots on-goal for the Auggies, while Emily Ach (JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) and Megan Johnson (SR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) had four shots each.

FOR THE FOES
• Demi Cooper scored both goals for St. Thomas, scoring on an assist from Shae McLean in the first period, and on assists from Valerie Brown and Anna Erickson in the second period.
• Kenzie Torpy stopped all 33 shots she faced in goal to claim her seventh shutout win of the season for the Tommies, ranked No. 8 in the latest USCHO.com Division III national poll and No. 9 in the latest d3hockey.com national poll.
