Auggies fall to Bethel in OT

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- After shooting 50.0 percent in regulation, the Augsburg University men's basketball team was only able to connect on 2-of-8 in overtime and lost a hard-fought contest to Bethel University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Robinson Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The game featured eight tied scores and 13 lead changes, with Augsburg leading by as many as 11 with 6:13 to play in the first half.
• In the final 26 seconds of the game, Augsburg was only able to hit 2-of-4 from the free throw line while giving up a Bethel lay-up with four seconds to play. The Auggies had a three-point attempt as the buzzer was sounding in regulation, but it didn't fall and the game went to OT. Augsburg was outscored 10-4 in the extra session and the Auggies suffered their first loss of the season.
• Augsburg was led by Booker Coplin (JR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) who recorded his third double-double of the season and sixth of his Auggie career. Coplin finished with team-high 32 points and 12 rebounds, the second time this season Coplin has scored 30-plus. He was 12-of-24 from the field and tied a career-best with five three-pointers, while also dishing out a career-best eight assists.
• Also posting a double-double for the Auggies was Matt Carik (SO, Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS), the first double-double of his Augsburg career. Carik scored 11 points, while pulling down a career-best 10 rebounds and tying a career-best with six assists.
• Mark Della Vedova (SR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) scored a career-high 14 points on a perfect 5-for-5 night from the field. Also scoring in double figures for Augsburg was Martin Mitchell (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS), who finished with 11 points, also on a perfect night, shooting 4-for-4 from the field. 
• For the game, Augsburg shot 47.0 percent (31-of-66) from the field, while Bethel converted 47.1 percent (33-of-70) of its shot attempts. The Royals claimed a 42-37 advantage on the boards.

FOR THE FOES
• Bethel was led by Jack Jensen, who scored a game-high 34 points, shooting 12-of-17 from the field.
• Granger Kingland and Derek Magnuson each added double-doubles for the Royals.
