Augsburg off to best start in program history

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University women's basketball team posted a dominant 91-65 victory over Concordia College Moorhead in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall. With the win, Augsburg moves to 8-1 overall, which marks the best start to a season in the varsity era of the program (1972-73).

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg jumped out to a 22-8 first quarter lead and never looked back. The Auggies shot a season-best 51.6 percent (32-of-62) from the floor in the victory over the Cobbers and finished with five players in double figures. The Augsburg defense kept Concordia out of rhythm all afternoon, forcing 24 Cobber turnovers and claiming a 43-16 advantage in points off turnovers and a 14-6 advantage in fast break points.
• For the second straight game, the Augsburg offense was led by Kaezha Wubben (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS), who scored a season-best 18 points, shooting an impressive 8-for-12 from the field, while adding four steals. Wubben has now scored in double figures in three straight games, while her 22 steals are second-most on the team.
• Aiza Wilson (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) also tied a season-high offensive output, finishing with 16 points. Wilson tied a career-high with five made three-pointers, and has now connected on at least one three in every game this season. Today's five three's bring her career total to 117, which moves her into third place all-time on the Augsburg career list.
• Leading Augsburg on the boards was Tamira McLemore (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS), who pulled down 10 rebounds, to go along with 11 points. The double-double is the first of the year for McLemore and second of her Auggie career. She also added a game-high five steals to go along with three assists and a pair of blocked shots.
• Also finishing in double figures for the Auggies was Camryn Speese (JR, Bloomington, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) and Abby Jordan (JR, Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS). Speese finished with 12 points, shooting 5-of-7 from the floor, while Jordan added 10 points, doing most of her scoring from the free throw line where she was 7-of-8.
• Augsburg posted a 38-36 advantage in rebounds.

 FOR THE FOES
• Concordia was led by Mira Ellefson, who finished with 10 points, while adding four rebounds.
• Kirstin Simmons pulled down a team-best six rebounds for the Cobber, while adding six points and a blocked shot.
