Auggies edged by St. Olaf

MINNEAPOLIS --  Collin Olmscheid (SR, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) scored a season-high 30 points, but it wasn't enough to stop a late St. Olaf College rally as the Augsburg University men's basketball team fell 68-67 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Monday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies led 64-54 with 3:04 to play, but a 10-0 St. Olaf run evened up the score at 64-64 with just 55 seconds to play. Augsburg's Booker Coplin (SO, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) hit a three-pointer on the Auggies' next possession to go up 67-64 with 30 seconds left. The Oles converted a layup with 20 seconds to play to bring it within one, then got the go-ahead basket with 11 seconds remaining. Augsburg had a look at a jumper with one tick left on the clock, but it didn't drop.
• Olmscheid shot 10-of-17 from the field, which included a 4-for-5 effort from three-point range, for a season-best 30-point performance. He was also 6-for-7 from the free-throw line, while adding five rebounds, a block, a steal and an assist. In the MIAC's overall statistics, Olmscheid leads the league in scoring average (19.6 ppg) and free-throw percentage (89.9 percent),
• Also having a good shooting night for the Auggies was Coplin, who finished with 18 points, connecting on 7-of-9 from the floor, and 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. He added six rebounds and dished out four assists.
• On the boards, Nick Sabatke (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) tied a season-best, pulling down six rebounds, while adding three assists. Matt Carik (FY, Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) added eight points and two rebounds for the Auggies.
• Tying a season high with seven assists, Harry Sonie (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) added five points and three rebounds.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57) from the field, while the St. Olaf connected on 51.9 percent (27-of-52) of its shot attempts. 
• The teams finished with 29 rebounds apiece.

FOR THE FOES
• Offensively, St. Olaf finished with three players in double figures, led by Dominic Bledsoe, who scored 17 points and added three assists.
• Robert Tobroxen added 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Oles.

• Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (2/7) at 7 p.m. hosting the University of St. Thomas in another key MIAC matchup.
